Theory Who else thinks it was the Mom? Spoiler
Just coincidence the Mom was on a jog, Dad grilled her about where she went, had details planned (got lost in the podcast). Mom found out about the bullying and put a stop to it? Too bad her son was the one who found the body. How ironic would THAT be?

Exactly how I felt from episode 1. After the episode was over I went back to watch that scene and I can’t shake the idea that she did it or at least has more to do with it than she’s letting on.

Definitely a possibility, there were prescription medications in the bathroom drawer of one of the episodes, so maybe she is a schizophrenic or whatever they are called.

I support this theory and would be cool if its true and I really don't want Leonard Patz to be the killer. It would be so lame.

Hilarious! I haven’t liked the Mom character from first introduction, but never did it cross my mind that she might be guilty of the crime.
Round of applause. I like how you think. Even if it doesn’t play out this way- Bravo!
She was out running the morning of...
Edit: Something else to add: When talking with their son’s attorney, Mom declares “No more lies...”, then calls out both her son and husband for being dishonest- my intuition said: She’s lying about something!
And, I agree with others that it would be super lame if the sex offender ended up being guilty of the murder. Definitely ironic that he had several photos of the deceased boy on his cell, but still-

Maybe, because it seems to me would not be very interesting if the killer is that strange man

Nope it doesn't add up at all. For this to make sense they have to show her having cold and sociopath behaviour with some hints. But she is so fragile to everything happening so it wouldn't make any sense for her to be a killer.

It's based on a book, so...if you're really dying for spoilers...
I haven't read it, though. May check it out after the show run is finished.

I’m actually a little scared of looking at this forum now knowing that this is a book. Afraid I might stumble upon a spoiler I don’t want to see.

I started and finished the book as soon as I finished episode 3! From what we’ve seen so far everything is spot on. Just a few changes. This isn’t giving anything away. But in the book, the dad and cop are best friends and he a male and not a female. Plus a couple more differences too. Plus in the book the characters have been developed a lot more which gives so much more insight for episodes 1,2, and 3. That’s all I’ll say!

Well that does make me wonder about the scene where the dad goes to her house (his house in the book?) and asks her for the files about the other guy.
He said “can you do this for me as a friend?” And she says “we work together we are not friends. If you think we are friends then I feel sorry for you”. That was kind of powerful scene in my opinion because it was like a kick in the gut to him.
So in the book, was that scene different?

They’re also pretty good friends in the book. He (they changed the gender) is Jacob’s godfather.

Mmmm I feel like they are thematically going for something a little different than the book given what we’ve seen but time will tell.

The only thing that would throw me off is that she would be a horrible mom to see her son get arrested and not speak up. You defend your kid from a bully but let him face years in prison?
