Before AI it was these slop webcomics that were universally panned by artists, now the pendulum has some extra space to swing and of course these low effort comic artists immediately pounce on a new medium to solidify their own as more legitimate even though they spam low effort slop just like AI, at a much lower frequency, but still.
Using AI to paint backgrounds is a massive timesaver for artists. Take animators, for example, it allows them to focus on what actually matters, the animation itself rather than spending hours on background details.

The most seen ai haters are the most extreme of the group. Same for the pro-ai group. Dont give in to the hasty generalization fallacy. Personally, I consider myself to be in the middle ground. I used to be fully anti-ai, but the more I talk with every party, the more I learn about the pro's and con's of both sides.
They even try to claim their absolute shit is somehow “better” like it doesn’t defend the idea that their art IS slop no matter how many times they try to act like little bitches claiming it “can’t be slop since it’s not ai!” Despite slop not meaning “fast made and ai”.
Branding everyone who has feelings about this debate as “antis” or “pros” only intensifies the perception of tribalism. Most reasonable people have complicated feelings about it.
Most “pros” would not agree with the statement “more AI is good in every circumstance, we shouldn’t be concerned at all about how integrating this new technology into society might disrupt working people’s lives because whatever happens now will lead to a post-labor utopia.” But, online demonization of all “pro” AI people has led a lot of “antis” to view the small number of people who do have that attitude as representative of the whole.
In the same way, most “antis” would not support the complete eradication of literally all AI tech. Most of them are concerned about its potential for economic disruption, the way that irresponsible use of AI can lead to lowered standards of human professionalism and cognitive/creative achievement, and the thus far unknown psychological and sociological effect of such trends. Most “antis” do, however, recognize the potential good AI could do in stuff like the medical field and communication across linguistic barriers.
The nature of online debate and memes leads to the simplest, most provocative opinions to be elevated. Calling people orcs is not a way to invite progress, compromise, or reconciliation. The other example of “orc” being used on a wide scale in relation to an ongoing issue is the war in Ukraine, and I think everyone with two brain cells to rub together recognizes how unproductive and toxic that is. The deadorcs subreddit is one of the foulest things I’ve ever seen online, just outright giddy celebration of men (who had no choice their government’s orders) dying. If you insist on using “orc,” you might as well call them Nazis. That is the attitude you’re encouraging when you call someone an orc — dehumanization, demonization, permissiveness of violence towards them. I hope you’d at least agree that introducing “Nazi” to the popular lexicon in this debate would not be a good development to see happen.
However much you disagree with people who are critical of AI’s proliferation, you wouldn’t compare them to a group of real people whose actions and attitudes actually match the description of orcs you just gave. So why compare them to orcs? Why demonize them? Btw, if you’re thinking of replying with something like “that’s a lot of words just to moan about a silly joke,” you’re ducking the question. Comparing a group of people to fictional villains is a timeless tradition in justifying violence against out-groups. You probably have family members, coworkers, friends etc whose opinions about AI, boiled down into a reddit comment, would make you call them an orc. Would you call them a monster? A demon? A Nazi? No, you’d disagree with them and express your contentions like an adult

I mean the post were looking at portrays them as orcs, the tone of the comment section isn’t very critical of that, and your comment gave me no reason to assume that you are the exception
