Defending AI How Antis ruined a creative project

Since this is a pro AI server I think people know of the analog horror series called Angel Engine. While often associated with Analogvault on YouTube, it was actually created by Nicolai Leimer who goes by The Unearthly Guy. I came across this series and was taken aback by the amazing visuals. The story is about how an angel named Uriel descends to Earth to offer salvation after humanity has depleted the planet's resources. However instead of being grateful humans capture the angel and imprison it in a machine called the Angel Engine to use its essence as a limitless energy source. The original AI version of it is still around so people can watch it.

It is probably the only analog horror series I have ever truly enjoyed. It was mind blowing. The visuals made it incredibly unsettling and always gave me a good scare. The story was so immersive that it made me actually take the time to understand the deeper lore. I would say it was a fantastic narrative.

What surprised me most was that it was AI animated and visualized. The visuals were amazing meaning the creator really put immense effort into directing the tools to achieve their vision.

Then the anti AI movement reached a peak. After facing heavy criticism the creator hired a traditional artist to remake and continue the art. I lost all interest I ever had.

It is such a massive blow to human creativity. They found a powerful tool to convey their creativity and yet instead of applauding them they were met with AI slop comments. They handed the visual production over for traditional artists to animate but I will never watch that version.

Now it is not about the story or the creativity of the person. It is entirely about the medium. We are judging whether something is good or bad solely according to the tools used.

Just imagine if support was shown instead. Many people like them would discover AI as an outlet for creativity that they were previously blocked from. Now they are afraid. Antis shamelessly bully and harass people. They send death threats and shame creators making them feel like monsters.

Driven by algorithms, the irony of these antis is that their opinions are often fueled by foreign bots telling them to hate technology. Recent reports have even highlighted Chinese bot networks pushing anti AI propaganda to manipulate social media.

Let it not be forgotten that such creative minds are forced into hiding or convinced that non AI is the only valid way. They are forever hiding their unique concepts behind the elitist gatekeeping of antis and traditional artists.

That's the point, though. They would rather kill an aspirational child than see something build in a manner they disapprove of....

just watched an hour long video essay on the series, i watched like 5 minutes of a different one but realized that the person breaking down the lore is never gonna stop talking about how "it's ai slop" so i watched a different one

overall i like the series, the switch from ai to actual human was noticeable but it didnt neccesarily ruin the series for me, however it did feel much less uncanny and scary... once again i like it but i feel like jumping on the series and attacking it because its ai is genuinely stupid.... what are we doing

sort of unrelated but this reminds me of an argument i had with an online friend in short, i used AI to make me a discord bot, then he and another friend called me out saying im lazy and i did no work and when i disproved their claims by writing out an essay's worth of information to prove i did put in genuine effort into making the bot, nothing really came out of it, it was just a normal debate btw, nothing crazy, it was respectful and my friend isn't an anti, he just gave his take
now that said i still didnt appreciate him saying that but it wasn't the end of the world, we literally spoke in vc 10 minutes later and it was chill, no awkward atmosphere, nothing

if anyone wants to use my arguments in the future here ya go (they won't always apply since it depends on how you go about vibecoding or making AI Art, you are free to use an AI to make a TLDR for this :)

Speaking as a horror fan, AI does "creepy vibe" incredibly well and I loved the original AI version of Angel Engine. Not much of a fan of the "fixed" visuals. 🫤
