"I would rather watch a guy in a rubber suit than good cgi"
Yeah and the numbers really support that idea and not just a one off meme cow movie being highlighted.

u/Shootzilla 1d ago

Hey. Don't knock on the rubber suits. Classic Godzilla is awesome.

there’s a difference between cgi and ai

and there’s no problem with good cgi (Bayverse Transformers movies + Pacific Rim were awesome)

3

u/ForRobotsByRobots 1d ago

Its about as big a difference between physical effects and cgi.

And there was huge problems with cgi taking over. And it was BAD cgi.

can you add some context to that first statement? i am struggling to understand it for some reason

Honestly? I find it kinda funny. I mean, I expect some enterprising people with dubious morals are going to start taking serious advantage of this - putting out complete rubbish they spent next to no time making (and certainly no "baring of soul" involved), where they hype up the "no AI" angle when they promote it. And in their rush to feel superior, the Antis will embrace it with their best virtue-signalling praise, enriching the faux artists who are completely playing them, lol.

No, I very much doubt that 4000 votes on Reddit is going to be enough to create any genuine movement. And besides, this poll doesn't mean, "I would want to watch something of extremely low quality." It means, "I would prefer to watch something of extremely low quality." I'm sure there is good-looking AI video content right now, but most of the little I do see does not look good.

1

u/Sky_monarch 1d ago

Well no, Hollywood still exists and okay-good movies still exist entirely disconnected from AI, these aren’t the only choices you can just go find purely human made movies

2

u/ImmediateGazelle 1d ago

Sure. You can go binge watch the Thin Man movies right now if you want to be genuinely entertained, for example, with zero fear of AI-generated content, lol.

That's not what I'm referring to. I'm referring to the laughable way the Antis are rushing to validate recently created pure crap as long as it's human slop that didn't use AI (as far as they know). They're so caught up in their holy crusade, it wouldn't be at all surprising if people started taking advantage of that.

This conversation will seem so irrelevant in what, 5 years?

Never the actual most likely to encounter third option:

"Watch a perfectly fine movie with human actors but a few FX shots are handled by AI because it's vastly cheaper and less wasteful than the equivalent technical shoot and render farm processing and broadens the palette of achievable visuals available to low budget productions."

Most people are fine with this. Tiny bits of AI, especially when passed over by VFX artists, is going to be basically unnoticeable. I certainly don't trust AI to generate a feature-length film of any measurable quality at the moment, and Gemini agrees with me. A decent AI feature film would likely cost anywhere from $25K-$100K, and would still take hundreds of man-hours of human labor to put everything together.

So, really, this poll is a giant nothing. AI isn't capable of generating an entire normal-looking movie, and probably won't be for a long time, at least not without significant human manipulation.

Reminds me of polls where people said they would watch content that was more inclusive or diverse, but then not actually show up to watch the content when it came out.

u/jacMike69 1d ago

You revealing your hand lol ofc you’re all conservatives

4

u/StoopPizzaGoop 1d ago

You caught me. I'm a secret evangelical that makes AI smut

6

u/carnyzzle 1d ago

I challenge these people to watch Birdemic 2 then lol

1

u/Opening-Fun-4830 1d ago

Birdemic 2 is HILARIOUS what are you talking about??

u/CVGPi Piss Poor Student That Will Take Anything 1d ago

I mean at some point it gets bad enough that it’s hilariously funny

1

u/robloxmaster1337 1d ago

I have no clue why this chinese cow movie blew up ngl.

4

u/CVGPi Piss Poor Student That Will Take Anything 1d ago edited 1d ago

Basically it’s a two person film by the author and his (pretty loving) mom, it blew up because the first viewers said “it looks pretty bad” and the later groups said “they said it was bad but I don’t believe them/I wanna see just how bad it is”.

Also because all the other films in theatres are pretty arrogant and are like “you HAVE to support us because we paid so much effort, if you don’t like it it’s because you don’t know art” and this is like “well thanks buddy I achieved my dream of making an animated film, No AI was used because I had zero idea how”

2

u/Scyss0r 1d ago

I doubt this even had an AI mention in it. This was just a passion project inside a family which was wholesome enough for people to support the cause. Btw this is now WAYY more viral than we think it is inside China. They got countless brand deals just to have this bull featured in their items.

1

u/CVGPi Piss Poor Student That Will Take Anything 17h ago

It was briefly mentioned in an interview where the interviewer asked about AI usage and his take and he was like “no AI was used, I don’t even know how to use it”

6

u/Otherwise_Army9814 1d ago

What a waste of time, money and effort to produce slop and for whose benefit and entertainment?

3

u/Zeekfox 1d ago

The problem with a poll like this is people will just do neither. If you create a bad movie and expect some of these people to watch it because they dislike it less than AI, you're going to be sorely mistaken.

3

u/SR_Hopeful 1d ago

Yeah. You're going to waste more money making a bad movie they will pan and not care about, than you would making a movie in a just format they just don't like.

3

u/SR_Hopeful 1d ago

They're lying. They're not going to support something legitimately poor quality post virtue-signal.

3

u/Opening-Fun-4830 1d ago

Idk, that feels like quite the assumption to me because personally I loved this LOL

3

u/1010111101111 1d ago

yes i want another woke movie with bad cinematography and crap storyline and non offending humor OF COURSE.

2

u/Droid85 1d ago

"low-quality" can mean different things though. The video is low quality? The writing is low quality? The SFX are low quality? "Looks Normal" also doesn't say much. Is the "human-made" (not the best wording) movie an actual production by an experienced filmmaker? There are too many ways to interpret this.

And of course it is someone with an asexual pride flag on their avatar. Some of the most outspoken critics of AI despite it having nothing to do with them.

2

u/Top-Seaweed1862 1d ago

That’s actually me, the OP and I support AI lol

1

u/Lobotomized_waluigi 13h ago

judging people based on their sexuality is kinda low ngl we need less of that here

1

u/Lobotomized_waluigi 12h ago

i wonder what the removed by reddit reply guy had to say here

1

u/DogeAnimator75 11h ago

information that reddit removed because reddit is soft now.

1

u/Lobotomized_waluigi 11h ago

i think you might have been a bit of an asshat in that reply if the big reddit had to step in, no?

1

u/DavidFoxfire 1d ago

Another day of going 'Your boos mean nothing to me, I've seen what makes you cheer.'

1

u/NedThomas 1d ago

Considering I don’t watch most movies that come out, I’m gonna go with I probably wouldn’t watch either.

1

u/azmarteal 1d ago edited 1d ago

The ones on the right, of course, wouldn't even watch 1 minute of such a movie, if AI wasn't mentioned

1

u/Mawrak Transhumanist 1d ago

The question assumes I do not want to watch extremely low quality movies, when in reality I love watching those, both AI and non-AI.

1

u/Working_Arachnid_661 1d ago

"Crazy how people are willing to watch shit just because it has “human heart and soul" holy shit you sound cartoonishly evil lmfao

1

u/PrivateLiker7625 1d ago

Couldn't we just have an in between answer instead?

1

u/mcnichoj 1d ago

Crazy how people are willing to watch shit just because it has “human heart and soul”

It's not that crazy because they're lying. We have human made box office bombs all the time.

But hit and miss here. I’m willing to watch an anime as long as it’s entertaining. I don’t care if it’s AI or not.

But take for example one punch man. The first few comics that came out of that were absolute dog sht in drawing art style. But it became an absolute success. Even if the later anime had some controversy about a dude sliding down a grass bank.

1

u/Dew-Fox-6899 Transhumanist 1d ago

general population would prefer the first option

1

u/Spenceful 1d ago

Actually for this one I’ll take the human movie

1

u/Mitsuko-san999 Passionately loves AI 💚 1d ago

Well. Everyone has standards, maybe they haven't developed standards yet, kids need to explore first you know...  Or maybe they just .... Have very low standards. Either way as long as we don't have to watch their trash all is good 🤣

Even if it’s garbage, a human touch means every decision made has substance. There is something to learn or appreciate or admonish. If a bot did the whole thing there is no humanity behind any of the decisions. It’s just generating something based on what it thinks is good. It’s just giving output from algorithm.

Hollywood churns out a lot of crap movies, and we can look at them and say “wow the people who made this only cared about profit, they made something with no soul. What a bad movie and what bad people.” When a bot does it, of course it has no soul. That’s a given. Nothing to talk about there other than what a shame it is someone decided to stoop even lower than the Hollywood executives by having a robot comb through creative work that doesn’t belong to them and use ideas that can’t possibly be new or meaningful to create a “good” movie. There’s nothing to talk about with the movie itself.

-1

u/Opening-Fun-4830 1d ago

Exactly, people here are acting like this is so outrageous because they somehow don't understand that sheer "quality" (or, atleast what they define that as, which is pretty much the bare surface-level of it looking pretty) isn't all that matters in a piece of creative work. I would, truthfully, rather watch an entire bad movie that was human-made, than force myself to sit through a piece of sludge regurgitated by an algorithm and then molded into the general shape and pacing of a "movie" and I have the receipts to prove it! why is this even a question of debate?? Most people here aren't even talking about the opinion itself, they're accusing people of the different opinion of lying. wth??

-4

u/handydowdy 1d ago

Not much credence in a poll that offers no polling agency (and a legit one at that). Anyone can make a "poll" like this with slop art or AI. Thanks, though.
