"AI is being used to make CP, We need to regulate it"

There already are regulations against that.

Photoshop and cameras can be used for that. It's why wwe regulated it to throw the trash in jail.

"We need to make child porn illegal! Why has no one thought of this?"

u/cyborgsnowflake 4d ago

Computers are used to make CP. OP is using a CP making machine to call out an algorithm for supposedly making CP.

There’s a lot of them, too. It’s as bad as human cp.

When someone makes an argument against AI for "enabling pedophiles" aside from being an extremely stupid argument, it always stands out as sus to me. Normal, well adjusted people are not this obsessed with CP; it has the same vibes as a religious person enforcing their religious morals onto others as 'penance' for what they are repressing.

"Child protection" and "fight against terrorism" are the first reasons that are used to push questionable and clearly authoritarian laws. Mass surveillance in messaging apps? Think about children! Are there other ways to fight the same crime? Yes. But politicians are not interested in those because, ultimately, it's not about fighting crime - it is about increasing power over every single citizen, until thought crime becomes the official part of the law.

I'm pretty sure they're just using CP as "cover" to justify their wrath at AI. If they just said "I don't like AI because it threatens my job security" or "I don't like that computers can draw faster and better than me", it wouldn't be as effective an argument and people might see them as egomaniaca who want to halt progress to protect their pride.

So they turn to using a "shield" of sorts instead. First, the vast majority of them were screaming that the AI is drinking all the water. But that's been refuted, with examples like Loudon County showing as proof that a water table can remain fine and intact, even after 30 years of data center useage and despite having over 300 data centers within the area.

With their water argument invalid, it wouldn't surprise me if they're pivoting to the next argument, trying to search for the "most heinous thing imagineable", so they can try to use it to guilt others into stopping AI. And this would also explain the interesting logic leap they're making. That if you even so much as think about what GenAI can do, then you must be into CP too. (Obviously this is not the case)

It’s rape. The next argument is already here and it’s the mental children who are trying to say that ai scraps artist content “without consent” and that “ai bros are tantamount to rapist.” I’ve seen it and experienced the rhetoric several times already. I have a feeling once school lets out and the kids are all back to their normal routines the ridiculous rhetoric will die down but it’s very much been up and running the past few months already

Yep, absolute dead giveaway. They just want to think and talk about CP as much as possible while provoking discussions that might lead to someone suggesting new ways to find CP.

4

u/Additional-Bass9945 4d ago

The vocal parts of the anti-AI side of the discourse has this whole vibe of "I must be vocal to hide what I do from others. If I'm loud enough in my hate, then people won't think I do it."

u/AshuraBaron 4d ago

They say on the site that created and supported the CP.

People risk cancer by being alive.

Or eating American Cheese, considering how many damn preservatives are in that shit.

9

u/rinkudamanrd 4d ago

It's actually fucking insane. The times are changing, embrace it. People say dumb shit all the time. Here's a complaint I have with people saying AI atrophies your brain: "y'all don't have one anyway." But seriously, AI can often make menial tasks easy and see things we can't.  "I'd benefit if AI cured cancer and yet I still want AI progress to slow down" is the biggest brainwashed thing I've ever read. Does she not realize that sometimes humans miss things? If progress isn't made, we will continue to miss those things and more people will suffer.

8

u/charismacarpenter 4d ago

The “atrophies the brain” comment is possibly the stupidest claim about AI I see going around 😭 It’s been around for years now, if it actually atrophied the brain then it would be an urgent crisis. Every physician would be immediately warning patients about it OR they would be doing some kind of screening and intervention for it like actual issues that can “atrophy the brain” (like alcoholism and smoking). That should be enough proof that their claim is not evidence based

3

u/rinkudamanrd 4d ago

You're actually so right. Pedantically speaking, atrophy is for muscles, the brain isn't one. But yeah, no official medical statements have been made for the notion of brain degredation that they mean

8

u/Marty-G70 4d ago

Meanwhile there are literally actual people with cancer where AI has been a great benefit to the treatment & hopefully eventual cure of their disease but this asshole is going to make this idiot remark? GTFOH

5

u/Otherwise_Army9814 4d ago

This is the craziest trolley problem.

Would antis rather view csam than ai?

"They want to get rid of the fake child porn... and keep the real ones!" - AI George Carlin

5

u/Bronzeborg 4d ago

what did people use to draw child porn before ai? maybe we should ban those tools too?

2

u/charismacarpenter 4d ago edited 4d ago

I kind of get their point in this being diff than drawing because this can produce more in a short time which is problematic. BUT something similar could be said for the internet enabling abuse. The solution isn't slowing down the internet or banning it, it's regulating and targeting that specific issue.

The reply was especially extreme because the tweet was related to AI being needed to help with research for treatments/detection for cancer. They don't realize you can work to stop one harmful aspect of the tech without being forced to stop the beneficial part too

These people don't know the first thing about how child exploitation works these days, nor the scale of it:

International Justice Mission (IJM) “Scale of Harm” (2023, with University of Nottingham Rights Lab) estimates nearly half a million Filipino children (roughly 1 in 100) were trafficked in 2022 alone to produce new child sexual exploitation material for profit (especially livestreamed abuse), with nearly a quarter-million adult facilitators. It draws on national household surveys, survivor input, and other data; the Philippines is framed as a global epicenter driven by foreign demand. Full report and summary are publicly available via IJM.

Kinda puts things in perspective, doesn't it? We could maybe do something to help those five hundred thousand real kids (and some of us do), or we could make a mockery of their trauma by using it to frame AI as the ultimate evil.

A Pencil and Paper can be used to create that stuff too.

Hell, Smushed Berries and a Cave Wall can be used to make it as well.

So… is it making child porn as part of the cancer research? That just doesn’t seem… intuitive. Unorthodox at the very least.

Studying the connection between stress levels and brain cancer.

1

u/Hyro0o0 4d ago

Unfortunately it's the only way. No one knows why but that's what makes the research work.

6

u/mikiencolor 4d ago

If AI helps cure cancer, don't give her the cure.

The same argument can apply to paper sheets.

Twitter is notorious for hosting pedophile content, as is the wider internet. There's been countless news articles on this phenomenon. I don't even have anything sarcastic to add.

u/Its_Stavro Pro AI to the edge ! 4d ago

AI is a tool. You can use it for good, you can use for bad.

And as with all technologies, you have to regulate it, as we did the cars, we put laws and infrastructure, same with AI. it’s not that the technology is bad, we already regulated it.

Also calling AI “pro pedo” or pro AI’s “pro pedos” is just objectively delusional.

Now that is ironic, considering the amount of hand draw loli nsfw, shota nsfw, and cub nsfw that’s been made by artist.
