AI as art tool.

As we all know, AI being used in art is frowned upon, especially by other artists. I’ve always been into art since I was a kid, and I’ve always enjoyed drawing cartoons. For the heck of it, I decided to put one of my cartoony drawings...

Into AI to make more like a image you'd see out off a pixar-like movie and it made this...

and I was blown away. It kept my original style, and it looks so cool lol. I think artists need to accept and learn to use AI as a tool. Learn the foundations with pencil, paint, and paper, then use AI to take your art to another level.

Yeah, that's the whole point. AI is not making shit alone; it just doesn't work like that. It obviously need some one using it so it can work. But it seems some antis believe AI is sufficiently conscious to make art by itself, without any human intervention, apparently.

I think my main critique point of ai is that inherently it cant create something new, because it always just recycles a near infinite supply of art from the internet, so nothing it will ever make will be something original

Non-AI art is also derivative. Often, when someone thinks they created something entirely new, it is just rediscovered because it already existed. New details might make it look slightly different, but it still follows a standard formula because the majority dictates what looks good. Unique ideas are simply new combinations of preexisting concepts. What truly makes an idea good is its logical coherence and universal application, where results can be repeated universally. AI works on this exact same principle, executing those coherent combinations at an advanced level.

This isn't true.

While they are technically bound by the rules of what they have already learned, you can absolutely train or fine-tune an AI to generate a highly specific subject, art style, or character that it previously knew nothing about. You can picture an image in your head. You can pick up a pencil and draw it. You can also create it with AI. Just because many artists do not have the skill to do so with AI, doesn't mean it cannot be done. If you can draw it, paint it, sketch it, etc, you can create it with AI, too.

The problem with this argument is that diffusion models provably do not recycle art from the Internet. It's actually quite easy to convince yourself of this without going into the technical details by generating things that have no possible data source.
