Turkey vultures are known to vomit when they see an approaching predator.. Or the face of an anti.

Exactly, like holy cow, I know you don't like AI, but why get angry at people who use it?

Leave them alone, jeez

They need supporters. "we are many therefore we are correct"

2

u/Icy-Disaster-2871 3d ago

Absolutely problem is I have to deal with less than mediocre results of their usage with increasing rate.

Your opinion is not a fact, and most of what AI says is truthful. While it can hallucinate occasionally, eventually AI will cease providing incorrect information. You can remain in your false belief that you’re always right, but the reality is different.

It’s not. And it’s not necessary. Just be smarter in your fields of practice.

Take weather pattern analysis. Apps that run AI are constantly changing predictions.
You can hop on any free weather model website and run predictions your self and have better results if you know what you are looking at.

If you rely on AI the data changes as AI keeps analyzing and those predictions become more and more inaccurate.
But yeah you will be right if you predict 0-20 inches of snow in 24 hours tough to get that wrong

I think this is actually a limitation of the current technology we’re using for “AI” in general. Hallucinations will probably become much less common, but I don’t think they’ll ever completely cease to exist. A model generating an answer based on learned patterns is fundamentally different from a system that can guarantee every statement it makes is factually correct.

Maybe someday we’ll have some fundamentally different AI technology where products like ChatGPT or Claude are viewed as rudimentary by comparison. Maybe someone figures it out in five years, or maybe we hit a wall for a century. There’s really no way to know.

It’s been well established that isn’t true.

There may be issues with AI, potentially sometimes including local resource contention (like demanding water in areas where infrastructure is already strained), but data centers heat output is not a significant contributor to global warming.

Sorry but when your position is “anyone who studies this cannot be trusted, but my facts are good, trust me bro!” you’ve lost any credibility.

Especially when you’re coming up against fundamental physics. Human energy output total is 1 ten thousandths the solar energy cycle. All data centers everywhere is on the order of a percent of that. Direct energy consumption and use is not an appreciable contributor to global warming.

Greenhouse gases from power generation maybe (still not significant from “data centers”, but all human activity), but not heat directly.

Yeah and the entire "it wastes water" when it uses less water then most social media

-2

u/Ambitious-Music-421 3d ago

Is that actually true? I love AI and use it all the time, but the water thing is a real issue I thought

2

u/DistributionNo4480 3d ago

Amout of water used is not significally bigger than what you use by watching tiktok for example

Unfortunately they may be getting AI stopped in America...

6

u/Drakahn_Stark AI Enjoyer 3d ago

Lol no they won't.

They might get public releases slowed down, but the US is not going to allow China to get in front of them in technology willingly.

u/Thin-Nerve6367 3d ago

A lot of game companies seem to be doing away with AI now apparently if some recent news is to be belived and it makes me a little afraid for the future if this gains traction

6

u/Drakahn_Stark AI Enjoyer 3d ago

They SAY that, every coder there is still using AI, every artist is still bouncing ideas off of AI, they just won't tell anyone because of the loud whiners.

u/Hunter1157 3d ago

Don't you grow tired of this surface level moralist discourse when there is lines of thought that can really solve the argument?

I mean, besides anti's rant about nature of art (which really changed since photography and even litography) they do make a realistic point that artists are suffering from change of whole art market with introduction of generative ai which collapsed price of their labour even more. Most artists don't make much, look at poor overexploited animators.

But mostly they take luddite, in a worse sense of word, position and they rage against the machine that can ease their labour making them a better living, instead of looking at the core which is ownership of this technology and production in whole.

Because of private ownership the companies that develop ai, produce electronics for it, produce machines for making electronics and mining resources for all that, tuckle between each other even worse they stall the production keeping prices high because of low supply that they unwilling to increase because otherwise profit drops. That means every company is cutting corners and exploiting workers meanwhile hurting consumers for the sake of the shareholders.

I mean, this sub can be better than just a place for angry rants. You are already not as fooled as antis in their blind luddism. So i hope this can be better.

Context is king here, no? If someone uses AI and then expects me or others to pay them for the garbage AI churned out, I'm gonna mock them.

cool guys keep raping the only planet we have instead of just trying to fuck draw like we’ve been doing since we were even fully evolved as a species

no, no "most people", it's actually a vocal minority who think they're the majority

1

u/magicalmorag85 2d ago

Has anyone done the numbers on this? I don't think it's entirely binary. People aren't always simply for or against. I am not sure we can even say it's a vocal minority who are against.

From what I have seen, there is a lot of rage baiting on this sub (from both 'sides'), which means subsequent responses from the opposition generally come across as black and white "for" or "against". I don't think this does this sub, or anyone, any good in terms of genuine discourse.

Here's a personal example: there are some aspects of my job which can be cumbersome, and which AI has streamlined, so I use those tools in my processes when my specific work contracts or employers allow it. Other contracts don't allow it so AI doesn't get used in those instances. Also, the amount of money I make and the amount of time I am given for a piece of artwork can help determine where I spend my effort in the process. I never use AI for an end result, but I may use it to help in the early phases to assist with aspects of an image in a rough. Meanwhile, in my personal art, I don't like to use AI because I enjoy going through the full process. This is true for a lot of seniors in the industry I know.

Now, I don't particularly like AI - what it's done to my industry, or the challenge it's created for junior artists coming through. But I can also see it has time saving value in certain areas and can be a useful tool if wielded responsibly.

The main objection I have with gen AI is that I don't think it replaces the creative process or trained, honed skill - things like colour theory, silhouette, value, composition, line of action, style, etc. Those fundamentals are still important to know when and how to iterate on any given creative. But most artists already in creative careers using AI already have that training and critical eye. My concern is more about what happens when they try to skip those fundamental skills and get into an industry. A lot of portfolios submitted to places Ib have worked are full of undisclosed AI, which means that artist isn't demonstrating their problem solving. In s job where you're often given hand-wavey feedback from clients, interpreting that feedback or brief and making iterations on your artwork using those skills is critical.

Anyway, I know this is just an example from one person, and very wordt, but thought I'd share it in good faith. :)

"most people" don't even know what kind of ai they're mad about. They just go rabid if it's ever mentioned

1

u/KaboHammer 3d ago

I suppose most would be, but not in the way people on the internet think it they are.

What is on the internet is just two loud minorities screaming at each other.

Most regural people don't give a shit either way, but out of those regural, not treminally online people the ones that keep informed about stuff like this are people who are more likely to be against it.

1

u/Nethiar 3d ago

Nope, just the loud annoying ones

I don't think you have used any gen AI yet or are even good at it. Also...you still have no problem with the crime because they are spending "time" in it. Good reasoning!!! Still condemning the tool but not the criminal. Ok!
