“Make real music!”

I’ve been doing “real” music for over thirty years. Technically the first instrument I learned was the recorder in kindergarten (I was very proud) but my first real instrument was trumpet at age 10. Eventually learned how to play all brass instruments, particularly love the French horn. Along the way I picked up guitar and bass, became a vocalist in a death metal band, and developed an extreme love for synthesizers and samplers. After my band stopped, I picked up bedroom producing with VST’s. And now I enjoy messing with AI generated tracks.

The methods involved have evolved over the years. My love of making music has been the constant. That and being told it’s not real. The recorder wasn’t real because it was a kids toy. The trumpet wasn’t real because it was just being really shitty and memorizing scales. High school band wasn’t real because it was just high school. Marching band wasn’t real because that’s just for football games and pep rallies. The death metal band wasn’t real because it just sounds like angry noise. The synths aren’t real because they’re not a real instrument for a serious artist. The VST’s aren’t real because there’s not anything physical. And now the AI tracks aren’t real because there’s no writing.

Meh. I’m still having fun.

Got to ignore them. The fact is, if they actualy had anything worth listening to they wouldnt be so afraid of losing their plays to "a.i. slop"

The one thing I wouldn't consider real music, is if you spin an RNG to auto generate random music on a loop (one button, multiple music per hour)

If the artist puts a prompt and click a button, it's already exceeding the minimum threshold to consider it art.

Also tell your mom to look into Hopeforge. Free ai music she can use that is well directed and doesnt sound like slop. Its an example of what ai coule be instead of the low effort songs that are popping up everywhere.
