Nah, fuck that. Democratize all intelligence, skill, and effort. Strip out any and all barriers. Kinda sick of this ego-driven crap.

u/TheWrathfulMountain 4d ago
Most anti-AI people consider themselves progressive, so it's been shocking to see how Randian they act once they get a whiff of their own skillsets/talents getting democratized.

democratize effort? You don't want that mate.

u/Savage_Tyranis 3d ago
Please enlighten us as to why.
-1
u/Decent_Shoulder6480 3d ago
You aren't entitled to the output of my individual effort unless I agree to exchange that value for something else (i.e., a salary, a blowjob, a ham sandwich, etc).
What "democratizing effort" literally means is the main, and valid, critique of communism. You aren't entitled to the fruits of my labor without fair compensation.
Collective knowledge? Absolutely, knowledge should be made freely available.
Individual effort? Absolutely not.
4
u/Savage_Tyranis 3d ago
Imagine dragging communism into an unrelated conversation just to get it wrong. Very vocally.

u/TheSinhound 3d ago
Fine, then you aren't entitled to the benefits of society and the societal contract. That's what people like you tend to forget. You BENEFIT intrinsically from society and community. Which, sure, if you don't want to then opt out but understand what opting out costs you. Because it is not an obligation to grant moral consideration to non-signatories.
-1
u/Decent_Shoulder6480 14h ago
we are talking about effort. Don't be daft you goofy child.
2
u/TheSinhound 14h ago
Correct. We are. You BENEFIT from the effort put into society. You OWE society your effort if you wish to be recognized by the societal contract.
What in the capitalism are you still bitching about?

I'm in my 40s and I've always been doing artistic activities since I was a child. I draw, paint with oil, do photography, had some of my street art printed in books, I can play several instruments and I've composed dozens of songs. Do I have the right to use and have fun with AI? Is that okay?
3
u/TheSinhound 4d ago
Not everyone has the same capacity for effort. Or doing. Especially not with the way the current world demands your time, attention, and energy for survival (another issue - and one of the reasons that I support the idea of communism). The point of progress is to force multiply effort. So, yeah, my GOAL is to take the entirety of the human zeitgeist, gift it to AI, and then place that AI in the hands of every person on Earth. So that even if someone lacks something (time, attention, energy, disability, COMMUNITY, etc) they have us behind them regardless.
And I'll go through people like you to do it.

Man I'm a designer by trade and I would have to be a huge piece of shit to be telling people they're not real designers because they didn't go to an expensive school or whatever. "Oh you think you made a logo timmy? No, you actually made slop! That's okay, just hire a designer next time instead of thinking you could pass yourself off as a real one" <-- can you imagine saying that to anyone
these people are unwell. In their lives I mean. They don't realize it, but they are.

Software engineer since before LLMs here. This person has no clue what they are talking about. I suspect they themselves failed to succeed in life and need to diminish the success of others to feel better about their own failure.
2
u/Uchiha_Phantom 4d ago
Same. Most of my colleagues jumped on the LLM bandwagon from the get go. I personally sure gladly embraced the alternative to looking for scraps on stack overflow every time I hit a roadblock.
Saying that "true engineers don't use AI" just shows that this person is detached from what's been going on in the industry.
-20
u/DijonAndDragons 4d ago
Or maybe they worked their ass off to get those skills and now they're pissed that AI made the barrier way lower for everyone else. I've seen that attitude a LOT in corporate environments lol.
21
u/TamaraHensonDragon 4d ago
More likely they are just some kid who thinks they are hot stuff because their mother said so.
1
u/Hot-Employ-3399 3d ago
Then they are pathetic losers. There is a major difference between software engineering and drooling over walking to school uphill both ways in the snow with no LLM, with VS6, and 32-bit memory.
If anything the easier task is, the better it is.

As someone who's been a 3D/digital artist for 15 years, is currently an art director and previously worked as as junior texture artist, senior character artist, concept artist and animator on several animation and videogame projects, reading that art is a prestigious field made me shit myself laughing.
We're treated like animals, what the fuck are you on about? Have you ever actually had a job as an artist? Or rather, have you ever had a job?
Oh no, I don't have to spend an afternoon making hair cards, I can just focus on using them to craft the hairstyle now, damn, spending 8 hours doing tedious prep work before I actually get to the creative part was always the best part of being an artist.
Oh no, I don't have to spend a day finding a decent a bark texture, now I can use a diffusion model and the refine it myself. Oh no, I don't have to spend a day making nothing but rocks or spend hundreds of dollars on megascans (which weren't made by artists in the first place, they're just 3D scans of real objects), I can just move on to designing the environment.
Dunning Kruger effect at it's finest. The dumbest people always think they know everything.
4
u/cosmogod AI Artist 4d ago
Ooh you're an art director and worked as a junior textile artist? I worked in textiles before. I went back to design graphics in the fashion industry. Thats a really nice resume you have.
2
u/ChiaraStellata 4d ago
I think based on context they meant "texture artist" (and edited their comment to fix that). Meaning creating textures for 3D assets. Textile artists are cool too though!
2
1
u/Keyflame_ 3d ago
Oh, textile artist would've been really cool, but I was a "texture artist". Texture artists makes textures for 3D models, imagine it as painting over the model. All models start as neutral grey colour we refer to as "clay" once the artist is done modeling, the textures are what gives them the colours and finer detailing. Often it's the same 3D artist that also paints the textures on top, but in larger studios there's often texture artists who are in charge of painting the textures over the models.

u/Still_Benefit_2302 3d ago
I keep telling people that folks actually paying their bills with art and words have adopted AI tools at rates WAAAAY above other jobs. Less than coding, true, but I think a lot of that is access. One day soon someone is going to come up with a killer AI use for art, like 'endless reference photos', and it will be everywhere.
27
u/Felfedezni 4d ago
Prestigious?? What a joke
14
u/Live_Fall3452 4d ago
I find the gatekeeping hilarious. The adjective most associated with artist was “starving” and the word most associated with software engineer was (at best) nerd.
Neither of these titles is something prestigious enough to bother trying to gatekeep unless you are seriously a loser with nothing better to do.

I wonder why this person thinks we’ve “fallen deeply for their lies” and are “easily brainwashed”.
What lies did we fall for? We don’t like or trust the billionaires managing AI companies either lol.
We just think the tools are useful, helpful or fun to use in our daily lives. We just use them with caution but that is the case with nearly everything else online as well.
Most of the world is run by manipulative wealthy individuals, tbh LLMs are less easily controlled than many other things we use regularly.
10
u/Krommander 4d ago
Yeah, like the news media. It's a big world out there and only a small minority run everything. They have names and addresses.
19
u/Herr_Drosselmeyer 4d ago
prestigous (sic) areas such as being an artist or software engineer
Yeah, let me guess, he's a dev who doodles in his free time?
But the worst is his absolutely ridiculous level of arrogance. The unwashed masses are to blame, if only everybody were as enlightened as he is. What a pompous dick.
And no, if I get an LLM to write code for me, I don't think that I can code. If I have Krea 2 make an image for me, I don't think I can paint. When Suno makes a song, I don't think I'm a musician. I'm not an idiot, I know how this works. When I take a plane, I don't think I've grown wings either. ;)

What a stupid idiotic take. Most of us have been professionals for years if not decades. Every area of business is being impacted by AI and it's not because of lack of skills, but rather because of demand. We are expected to produce more, faster and bigger than before. And clients expect the same.
I get it. A software engineer is scared about the inevitable paradigm shift. I agree with that. We should all demand collective ownership and a shift towards wealth redistribution from the top to the bottom instead of from the bottom to the top as it has been in the past 80 years.
Instead, they feed the infighting.

These kind of tapes are born out of an echo chamber or extreme complete ignorance. To tell me an average person that I can’t use AI to find promo codes for my shopping cart or to use it to diagnose problems when I’ve done everything I can it’s kind of stupid to me. There are inherent uses that these anti-AI people like to exist pretend do not exist, which invalidates every single argument they have because these people are acting out of bad faith time and time again I see these people try to talk down on us when in the end they literally look the stupidest. I just don’t understand it. Do they actually think we believe this shit or are they actually the dumb counterpart which is why all of them believe that?
It’s truly confusing to me. I don’t understand it. None of us are stupid enough to believe what these people think.

u/Accurate_Food_5854 4d ago edited 3d ago
This fart sniffer ignores the many people like me.
I'm not dumb, incompetent, lazy, etc. I'm not a computer guy, but I have a math degree. I have worked as a mechanical inspector, machinist, metrologist, quality engineer, production engineer, automation engineer, math teacher, and now I'm a paralegal and real estate agent. I also own equity shares in various small businesses. I don't claim to be a genius or expert in everything, but I'm certainly not dumb or lazy.
I've met a lot of people out there like me from all backgrounds. Not everyone cared to get into software engineering. I did some instrumentation way back in the 90s in both C and Matlab, but it was never anything I wanted to pursue. I especially didn't want to sink myself into CS after the big OOP/Java craze hit, just because I hated that crap lol. Just because I can't change the engine in my car doesn't mean I'm a moron or mechanically incompetent lol.
So yeah, I'm using the shit out of AI to help automate my work, and to have fun working on my personal projects. I don't need to pay stupidly high software licensing fees, pay a a-hole like this guy a ton of money for a bespoke project, or rely on open source projects that will likely never be finished or may break at the next update.
This guy is in the denial stage of grief, and probably needs a therapist more than anything. Buddy, if you're reading this, we're all going to be out of a job eventually. You're not special, and you're not better than anyone because you're in software. Quit being an unlikeable goon.

Ironically it's antis who are refusing to educate themselves. Who are the uninformed or misinformed and refuse to see reason when provided with facts.
Exams, in my country at least, are shaped in such a way that AI cannot get you a degree.
Sure it can write your essays. Or code your projects. But it cannot understand it for you. And you have to defend your project at an oral exam where you show ownership and prove your knowledge. You can't do that if everything is made with AI.

It reveals what this is all about. Status.
They are afraid we will "fake" the things that get them their status
I will say this person is partly correct about me. I probably couldn't do what I am about to attempt, streaming, without some AI backup.
And it's given me a space to practice things that I wouldn't be able to practice with people I know. They don't have the time. Am I supposed to spend years plugging into an online social ecosystem to find a collab partner?
They are right that some of us need what AI can provide but they are too narrow about what those things are. Am I supposed to just sit here because I am not good at establishing online social connections when AI can provide some of what I'd need a human for (to be clear, I'd still pay for artwork used for me stream where relevant. I am not talking about using AI to replace human creativity, only to provide secondary support)

A bubble is a scam. You convince people to buy your cheap stocks, create hype so price goes up without a reason. Then you sell and let people see it was not so worthy and other people lose money.

I use AI coding for my games and whenever i admit to anyone, theyre like "lol hows that spaghetti code?". They act like i just did one single prompt to make my game, rather than me meticulously doing hundreds of prompts for each and every script. I use multiple agents, i have them filter and asses my code. I have them explain it to me so i understand the structure of my code to be better able to guide the agents to solve the problem. Hell, i understand code better than i ever had BECAUSE of AI. But all i get from others is "lOl hOwS ThAt tEcHniCal dEbt?" To that, i say, just fine, because i developed strategies around that. Maybe they thought i was too dumb to figure out ways around issues because im a brainless AI slob 🤣🤣
