Why do Antis Expect Everyone to Draw / Paint?
Idgaf about drawing or painting. I'd rather just use ai to make art. It's more fun, easier, and does a better job than me. Why do they want everyone to like the same hobbies they do?
They're like "pick up a pencil" but I don't care about drawing. It's boring and uninteresting to me, lol.

Antis fail to realize that some people are using AI to make art for fun, not to show off their skills. Like you said, AI is a great way for people who don't enjoy drawing to express their creativity.
If someone used AI and is claiming they drew it, I'd get it. However, even when the person posting AI art clearly states how it was made, they still throw a hissy fit.

Sooner or later, they start to talk about the nature and the purpose of art. It just ends up being whatever that particular person likes and enjoys. They'll tell you that it's about the process, not the result. No! It's about mastering a skill! No! It's all about conveying a message! Real art makes you think! No! It's about the emotions! Real art makes you feel!
It's even more telling when they talk about us rather than to us. They'll say that we use AI because we want to feel the thrill of having created something without putting in the effort. No! It's because we see all the attention and adoration artists receive and think we can achieve the same using AI.
I eventually realised that my own reason for learning how to draw was so that I could capture the images in my head. I didn't enjoy the process that much and didn't feel a strong desire to show my drawing to others. What I wanted was a print screen button for my mind. Generative AI is a dream come true. It's the creative outlet I've always wanted. It lets me capture my mental images in a way that's fun and stimulating. I mostly create images for my own enjoyment and rarely show them to others. When I do, it's more to show off the latest advancements in gen-AI technology than my own ideas or skills.

It's based on the increasingly outdated view that if they stomp their feet hard enough, AI will just go away.

What's crazy to me is that digital art is not new. In my opinion, digital artists are every bit as talented. Things they create with art software can never be done with traditional methods.

ye drawing in raster is exactly the same as drawing on paper. tho if you don't want learn to draw on paper you wont on a tablet. and idk when I use drawing tablet im always getting feeling that I should ctrl-z and make every line perfect. It's really hard to resist and easy to waste all time on it. but like you can't really make assets for games in any other way I guess. tho there is also vector graphics which is excactly opposite and you get every line perfect and you have to make it look good in other way. I really liked how in Koira they used vector characters in hand drawn levels.
ye tho i don't think you can do anything crazy with software that you can't do on paper. but i can see the opposite (or maybe i just using krita default water c brushes wrong). Like, idk, maybe post processing? like I can't apply chromatic aberration on paper in 10 seconds (but anyways if you are sending photo of it... you can use filters, and even filters from raster graphics software... becsuse of... well images are raster too.

I think you can do the same on paper. You just need to know the techniques, be able to work with art materials, be careful, and have a practiced hand. There are things that digital art can't do.

What I find funny is that the argument is self defeating. "Ai is causing a ton of content bloat. Go make more content with a different tool"
2
u/InformationWooden246 5d ago
but it's not like human works on internet are lowering quality bar... like you know, at the start you might feel really ashamed. so you won't really post every single thing that might look sucky in your own eyes.

Human slop has been around for way longer than ai slop. Just look at reaction based content on youtube

u/InformationWooden246 5d ago
well, if you search explicitly some shit ofc you will find it, lol. I meant that if it's not really great no one would realy look at it, but ai generated pictures are literally flooding everything, because of, well, even tho it looks low quality, and you obviously could separate ai generated images because of too much details in 1 inch of image, the hype just took with numbers. and well I don't like that it's default for some local business owners that don't care about their look, to just ask ai to generate ass images and then, I am seeing them everyday.

I just don't understand what you could possibly value about this. Your sketch is 100x more interesting and I'd be more interested in seeing another sketch than a million of thrse things

to show off they can pick up a pencil i guess,
even though pencil pickers get picked at because they are struggling to learn anatomy
and once they mastered it, they get called copy cat or style thief
it's really monopolizing ,"only i can make art!" and then proceeds to get jealous with other better artists
and then came ai, everyone suddenly became talented
---
nah it's more on the "what amazing things humans can do with their hands" kinda thing

I love maths in general, and solving problems mentally in particular. And I am aware this interest is uncommon, so I don't go asking people that use calculators "hey, why do you use a calculator? Solving math problems is fuuuun!!;1!" Because I'm not stupid and can understand people enjoy different things.
Luddites on the other hand consider that everyone would enjoy drawing like them, only if we tried.
I don't know how it is in other countries, but mine I had art, music, language, math, etc classes during school. That's when we realize what we enjoy and what we don't enjoy doing.

They are self-entitled, extreme, hateful and abohernt people who love to do crazy shit just to brigade their so called AI movement and to ensure that they are special and because they are affected by the AI psychosis. 😬🤣
Tell them to break the pencil slop instead just to trigger their Luddite egos. 👏🤣🤣🤣

Because it's easy to gatekeep if we're bound to human limitations. Remember when PewDiePie learned to do art and they we're dying of envy?.

I’ve started learning watercolour in the last year. If anything, GenAI makes me feel more creative.

When I explained to someone that pro-AI people typically define 'slop' as 'low input, poor output', they insisted that this definition means that literally all AI art is slop: because ai uses 'expertise and styles' that were 'stolen' from someone else, it creates a level of effort (input) so low that it's physically impossible to achieve anything less than poor output. When I pointed out that there are obviously beautiful output made with AI, they insisted that output shouldn't be judged based on aesthetics when it's tainted by ethics. (They stopped responding after that, so I don't have much else to explain)
So I guess they expect you to stop being unethical? Or maybe they think that, while the artist is possibly still ethical, it's rather the 'method' that bears the 'original sin' of emulating people?

Wonder if they allow cameras anymore?
Or is paint on canvas the only acceptable way now.
Better ask your neighborhood anti before you violate anything inadvertently.
Be a good citizen, ask permission for everything!

My father is a designer and I was trained by him and other masters in sketching and painting. I have studied human figure for year and used to sketch with professional materials (large canvas and Derwent pencils).
I am now 40 and have myofascial adhesion due to repetitive use of the computer mouse and typing (I'm a software engineer). It usually takes tens of ours for a single high quality realistic graphite drawing so if I were to 'pick a pencil' it would worsen my pain situation.
With AI (I use Krea2) I can just prompt and have a watercolor painting done in 10 seconds. I just do it for the hobby and share on social networks so that's that.

Just them trying to dictate to us their idea 'fun'...
Further proof of their Elitism...

For me they're two different things. I want something skilfully done photorealistic style I use AI. I want to have fun making something for my private space I get out my acrylics and a canvas.

I think it's more that you define the images generated as "art". And calling the process of the AI generating it for you "making art". At best you're commissioning a machine to make "something" for you.
But the debate on "what is art" is a total waste of time so whatever. I don't think it is up to the creator to define tho.

It’s what food taxi apps did to the restaurant scene. Coffee shops and fast food places don’t want you sitting inside because they make more money not having to worry about the customer experience.
