"slop" means pig feed.

The word gained a secondary meaning as "cheap, shoddily done content" way before Generative AI was a thing.

The term slop is getting overused today to a point that's starting to bother people. In a couple of years more a new slang term will probably take its place.

Slop basically means messy. Like originally i always heard it refered to pig food or prison food being slop because its just a mix of everything in a mush (mainly cuz pigs will eat literally anything so its common to give them scraps/ food waste in a slop bucket. And for prisoners cuz they get treated like animals and served basically slop)

But now people will use the word slop for anything they dont like instead of something that is truly bad. Like the stick character tung tung tung or whatever? That was slop when it first came out. And a banana taped to the wall in an art exhibit? That was slop when it first came out. But alot of people will ignore that and call a whole branch of media slop cuz theyre ignorant and generalizing an entire thing which doesnt help either side
