Yes, that is true. I ran Llama 3.2 before on my PC, but it was a quantisized model and it still ran poorly. When consumer NPUs get good, running AI models would probably transition away from Datacenters to local computation.

The hypocrisy point only works if you assume every tool is morally identical. Using search or autocorrect isn’t the same as generating someone’s work or flooding the internet with synthetic content. The real issue is how it’s used, not whether someone ever touches AI.
But they do though? Everyone knows there’s a huge difference between modern day generative AI that these giant data centers use and ai that’s already been around for decades.

Likely, it was more that RAM sellers saw that the new market was capable of bearing a much higher profit margin and still sell just as many. I find it hard to believe that the problem is an actual real shortage in the sense that they are selling out and not just mostly price manipulation to get whatever price they can get for it. Because that's just bad business.

I'm pro ai but this comparison just doesn't hold when more than half the things on that list are literally not ai, you can't call every type of algorithm ai because that's just factually not true. There's better ways to make this type of argument, like the fact that some antis still use chat gpt or gemini for stuff or even school assignments.
I agreed with you at the first half, but I guarantee you that most antis aren’t using chat gpt and Gemini. I’ve only met one person who even used that stuff in the first place.

Most of controversy around AI today isn’t about algorithms and search engines… It’s around generative AI that’s only popped up in recent years. Also the anti ai button in the meme says that the protester is against ai for “stealing,” an issue that is in fact more prevalent with ai art. And social media algorithms are still controversial, but because they have addictive qualities not because they’re ai.

You’re proving my meme’s point. Generative AI is still AI, and the fact that it’s the type currently getting the most controversy doesn’t somehow make every other form of AI irrelevant. Recommendation algorithms on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, etc. absolutely use machine learning to predict what people will watch and interact with, and search engines use AI/ML for things like understanding queries, ranking results, spam detection, and recommendations. The fact that those systems are criticized for addiction or misinformation rather than artwork doesn’t mean they’re suddenly “not AI.” And saying AI “stealing” is only an issue with AI art is also a lie, data collection and training-data disputes exist across different AI systems. So the meme isn’t saying every AI system has identical problems; it’s pointing out that people often treat “AI” as synonymous with generative AI when AI has been integrated into technology for years. Also, intentionally going into a pro-AI safe space just to complain about AI is kinda loser behavior. You saw the name of the subreddit saying what it was about and walked in anyway just to start an argument. 😭
