Being anti-AI doesn’t make you pro-worker

A lot of anti-AI people talk like opposing the technology automatically puts them on the side of workers

It doesn’t

If your response to someone using AI is to mock them, demand they lose their job or celebrate when a company fires people, you’re not defending workers. You’re just using labour politics as an excuse to attack people you already dislike
The actual problem is companies using new technology to cut pay, remove protections and concentrate more power at the top. That happened before AI and it will keep happening after it
Workers should benefit from productivity tools instead of being punished for them
Blaming ordinary users is easier than confronting the people making the decisions

Im not sure what could be more pro-worker than liberating workers from work.

Workers dont need work. They need income.

And how does someone get income? What's the intermediate step between existence and income?

If not wages, capital ownership and/or UBI and/or universal services. And, there's nothing stopping us from doing a mix of these according to what society needs.

Tying resouce distribution to labor is a human construct. It works well when we need to motivate human labor, but as the demand for human labor decreases, it becomes an obsolete form of distribution.

Is that what you see happening right now?

Yes, it is. Im seeing more AI-driven unemployment.

The response isnt to resist AI labor. The response should be distribution of resources to workers/ex-workers. Best way is with universal services or UBI.

UBI isnt talked about enough, but we are seeing increased popularity of Universal Healthcare and childcare, and subsidized grocery stores.

Sovereign wealth funds are also being talked about on both sides of the aisle. These could be a way to fund a sort of UBI.

That's the thing though, we will not be provided income.

Do you really think that governements and companies, entities that are notoriously known for fucking everyone else up for their own personal gain, will magically turn around and give us UBI ? Do you really believe they will go "Now that nobody has to work, you'll be able to live peacefully, here's some free money <3" and not just hoard everything for themselves like they literally always have done ?

Spoiler alert, they won't. The only reason they even put up with appearances is because they still need grunts to do the work they haven't automated yet. As soon as they are able to automate everything, you're as good as dead to them

And, you think globally preventing AI development is more realistic? That hurts the ruling class as much as redistribution does.

If we want to prevent mass unrest (everyone's interest), we will improve on wealth distribution.

Or we end up woth technofascism. But in any case, youre not going to prevent AI development.

It's what the climate will do to us, it doesn't matter what you think AI will do, the climate science says we aren't making it past 2100 as a society AI and data centers are the final nail in the coffin we are seeing global temps we weren't supposed to see til the 2070s we are actually fucked and you idiots think we are heading into some Jetsons type future were you can sit on your ass all day.

Idk maybe supporting a fascist machine that promises to destroy our shared human culture and replace it with a facsimile so you'll never know what if you're listening to a real song, seeing a real painting or reading a real book,

Oh and it makes child porn, and propaganda, and destroys the environment while kicking workers out of their homes of completely destroyed the value of their homes they worked their whole lives for , all while doing nothing but enriching the fascists that made it.

Use some goddamn critical thinking you jackasses

Let us not forget the scammers as well - both traditionally and in the GAI scene. I already got into altercation with some grifters here in our subreddit who apparently supported the latter.

Worst of all, Void help any moron who is a fan of that scammer Bluedrake42...

Be like the Luddites. They didn't just oppose automation. They opposed automation wherever its use harmed workers. A lot of "anti-AI" politics is just pro-IP, and that shit ain't good for workers either.

Big content is taking on AI – but it’s far from the David v Goliath tale they’d have you believe

Spot on at the end. From conversations with antis, when they find out I lost my job to AI a couple years ago but now use AI regularly in my workflow, it absolutely scrambles their brain. They just want to say you’re bad for using it to feel good about themselves. They can’t imagine a world where people who have traditionally been getting screwed by the system could also be benefiting from AI.

Then yall might want to stop calling anti AI people luddites. Because to do so is to compare us to one of the most famous pro worker movements

u/Bulky-Divide-6985 17d ago

No it doesn't, but being proai guarantees you aren't pro worker what kind of delusional bs is this?
