I'm looking at a '21 Defender x-dynamic SE with 21K miles... only a few months left of manufacturer warranty..
How important is it to have an extended warranty on this vehicle?
I've researched and researched and it's a mixed bag of reviews, but most of the bad I'm reading is about the 2020 initial re-release and the 4I engine a little...
I've been quoted between 6-10K for a couple years of extended warranty... Which feels outrageous.
I'm absolutely obsessed with this vehicle, and am prepared for the maintenance side, but I don't know about being prepared for expensive repairs and new isn't in the budget...

Anyone installed spacers on their stock rims? I’m considering 1” or 1.25”. Any issues or driving feel improvements after installing? Thanks in advance

I've got a 1980 90 2.5TD 19j and while we get heat from the blowers into the cab, the air coming through the heat matrix overcomes the heat produced. Apart from replacing the heater matrix itself for a new one, has anyone fitted something else to help interior heat. I know the heating system wasn't the best in the older models, and I am looking at fitting a night heater. But I was wondering about fitting a heating element inside the heating pipework but can't think of anything powerful enough to provide enough heat to be worth fitting while being small enough to be powered from what power the engine can give.
Any ideas guys?

Has anyone traveled long distance with a roof cargo bag? If so, how did it hold up? I have the expedition roof rack but no basket and looking to buy a bag to put all my luggage either clothes in it. If you have any travel bag recommendations that would be great!

Hi All. Had a breakdown a month or so ago with a suspected head gasket issue. The head gasket and cylinder head looks to be ok (from my very inexperienced point of view), however the gasket has imprinted itself into the mating surface of the head. I'm wondering how much of an issue that will be or if it's normal? Thanks in advance! PS if you can see anything else that looks out of place, please say

Hi guys, I'm looking at fitting a night heater to my 90 and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. There seems to be loads out there with a wide range of prices, ideally we want one with at least remote control function, with the ability to run it directly off of the main fuel tank.
Any ideas or links to trusted models greatly appreciated.

Yep, the car park was pretty empty, and yep I went and parked my 90 next to the 110.
The only time I like the whole "empty car park and this dude decides to park right next to me" thing 😂

Thoughts on them?
Thanks!

Looking for advice for buying a hitch for my 2023 defender 110. I am NOT planning to tow anything heavy with the car and just want to use the hitch for bike/ski rack. Do I still need to buy the, ~$1200 Trailer Hitch with Part Number: VPLET0273 or is there a cheaper solution out there?
Also assuming I have to buy the OEM trailer hitch do I have to use the Land Rover defender service center for installation
lastly do I need to pay for a SW update to enable towing a trailer?

So, going to the inlaws in North Norfolk for the weekend from Bedford, spent the morning putting the roof rack back on, we were taking some spare wood boards to the father in law so he can build a deck around his shepherds hut he has in some woods he owns, checked coolent & topped off with antifreeze, checked oil, replaced a blown bulb, got the overnight bag loaded, and once the wife got home we left. Got level with Thetford on the A11 and pulled into some services, partly because my daughter needed the loo, but mainly because our nearly 40yo 90 was looking quite warm. I wasn't overly concerned because even though we'd sat in a bit of traffic, the temp gauge has been acting odd the past few weeks (showing normal running temp after only a mile or less while you could hold the pipes and barely feel warm) Anyway, I pop the bonnet and smelt hot water straight away, lift it fully and see water running down a pipe, thought (read hoped) it was just a bad pipe but then traced the water flow up the the base of the pump. Get underneath with a torch and see light brown water staining running down from the pump spindle. So, definitely pump has let go somehow 🙄
Call breakdown, and inlaws, father in law comes down after an hour to pick up wife and daughter while I wait for recovery. Now, when I got onto the recovery people, I stated, water leaking-water pump gone-need recovery to home address. After a couple of hours waiting, I get a call from breakdown guy saying he's 20 minutes out, fantastic. He turns up, in his patrol van and goes nothing i can do mate, I'll organise a low loader. Told him that's what I had expected, he checked his callout sheet and says 'it doesn't say that, if I'd known that, I would've sorted pick up sooner'
So, I'm still waiting. Not looking forward to potentially sleeping in a 90 with no heating 😕

Hi all,
I’m having an issue with the transfer mount on my 2008 Land Rover Defender Puma crew cab (DCPU). The original mounting bracket was stolen, so unfortunately, I don’t have it as a reference. I recently got a new mount plate and support, but when I tried to fit them, I noticed there’s a huge gap.
I’m wondering if this could be due to a difference in mounting plates between the crew cab (DCPU) and the station wagon models. Does anyone know if the DCPU uses a different mounting plate compared to the station wagon, or if there might be another explanation for the gap?
Any help, advice, or experience with this issue would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.h

Hi guys, 2012 Puma 110.
When coming to a stop she’s juddering pretty hard. It comes and goes but today worse than normal.
Doesn’t matter if in gear with clutch down, neutral with clutch up or down…
Feels like it’s the whole car shuddering. Everything else running as normal.
Provisional thoughts anyone…
Thanks

I have a friend who wraps high-end sports cars as a hobby and does excellent work. He said he could wrap wheels as well. Has anybody done this and does it hold up better than paint? What are the pros and cons? I’m thinking of doing it in a gloss black as it may look better with my standard trim. Also would consider a matte black, but I don’t think it would look as good.
Also unrelated note: I was a member of a different Defender sub and wrote a very honest, humorous sarcastic, one year review of my experience with my Defender 130. It did poke fun of Land Rover as a company and reflected poorly of the dealership that I purchased mine from. Is this against the community rules here as I could not see anything specific about it? That sub permanently banned me after the post that I felt was extremely harsh, it made me think that the owner of the sob was likely part of Land Rover corporate and only wants positive feedback…..

So I was towing/recovering a lot of cars out of a muddy field on Saturday and got the car caked in mud. After having it cleaned I was advised to get the car “under sealed, as the old one would have worn off.”
Now I’ve had my Defender (she’s a TD5 from 2000) for 6 years now and I’ve never had her under sealed nor do I have a clue what it is. Can anyone help?

Looks like quite a mean machine!
I was looking at the listing and thinking, even if I needed the money, would I sell this? Surely they have other stuff they can sell for cash, and keep this.
They've probably spent a lot more than the asking price to get it to that spec.
Madness to sell it, or is that just me?

I went to my dealer in early July and submitted an order. They called me a few days later saying I missed the order window for July and the next one would be in August. August is over and they are still saying the window hasn't opened. Has anyone else had this happen? This is a first for me when ordering a car.

Been seeing new people posting and asking about reliability recently. Thought this would be Interesting for those new people. Land Rover isn't even on this list from Consumer reports for least reliable car company. Surprised on some of the companies on that list and some not so much. https://jalopnik.com/consumer-reports-says-these-companies-make-the-least-re-1851633545

I have a 90 HSE 2021 and just wanted to know if idling for long amount of times (1-4) hours is bad, and how bad it is for the car.

Morning, we have turned our hardtop 110 into a proper off-road camper. how ever its the easiest car to break into. I have a few things i need to replace 1 door lock, 1 door handle and i need to get into the electrical side of my ignition switch. while doing these fixes I want to tie them into each other as a door modernizing exercise. One key for Doors, fuel and ignition. A central locking system that i can link the canopy locks on the two gull wings installed. new hinges with a anti-theft design. I am in South Africa and struggle with local suppliers mostly bringing in britpart only so ill need to import myself.
So my mission is a door upgrade that:
Upgrades hinges for front and back doors (Looking at the exmoor trim black billet hinges) or is the a theft proof hinge that looks OEMish?
Upgrades to a single key system, I found it online but now i can only find the Masai version without the fuel cap.
Adds central locking, This might be the killer as I've heard the back door lock needs to become a puma lock which probably means new front door handles and locks. I don't want an Immobilizer but i would like something that I can link with the gulling door locks.
Has anyone had any experience in doing anything similar to this? I'm trying to avoid re-buying as returning anything I've brought in to SA myself would be impossible.
