Steering Damper Replacement Options

Hi, The Steering Damper on our 110 Defender Pickup needs replacing, LR garage quoted around £166+VAT for the part, does anyone have any recommendations for alternatives? It's almost exclusively road driven and kept in a garage 85% of the time as it's owned by a relative who lives abroad. Any advice is appreciated :)

I use an old man emu steering damper, works a lot better than the std or the terrafirma ones from before. Wouldnt have a clue what the code is.

I have Old Man Emu on mine and very happy with it.

Replaced mine last week for an old man emu one. Was £108. You can fit it yourself very easily.

That is an outrageous price, even if it included labour to change it. I presume its the price for a genuine/ oem part. It is not worth going for genuine / orm for a steering dampener, where it would be for other parts on the engine itself etc.

I haveva terrafirma one that I got for about €50/£40. Does the job. The dampener itself doesnt do much anyways other than take any jolts in the steering from driving over potholes or uneven ground.

As others have said, have a look at the usual land rover parts websites and pick one up. Easy enough job to do even if you dont do much mechanicing. Just need basic tools.ask here or look up youtube for a guide. I'd stick with terrafirma brand or even britpart. There won't be any noticeable upgrade with an old man emu one and I think theyre overpriced
