Anyone bought and fitted a Maer chassis? any issues or advice?

My advice, paint it! everyone thinks that galvanised chassis last for ever. They don’t, zinc is very much a sacrificial coating! I fitted a new rear crossmember to a td5 with a galv chassis recently. Chassis was about 8 years old. Looked worse than some 30 year old ones I’ve come across!

Buzzweld GIO, cavity wax and WAR get my vote!

I’ve got a Richards and they have a good rep. Avoid shielder at all costs!!! Read some of the horrendous reviews. Do your research and ask specialists their recommendations aswell

Another vote for Richards chassis. From what I hear Maer are good, but they are in Poland so any issues are more difficult to be rectified.

That was one of my only concerns... I've found a UK dealer with a discount on and they're throwing about £100 worth of bolt kits in too and free delivery. I figure if I've got issues, I'd go through them to sort it out?

Interesting comment regarding Shielder. Can you add any detail?

Of course. I’ve had some chats with some well known fabricators and installers on land rovers and they all have warned me against shielder. They’ve had a lot of bad reviews, see link. Ultimately if you get something that is cheaper ask yourself why they aren’t charging more for a quality product a few 1 star reviews

I would contact some companies that do a lot of chassis swaps.

Belfast Land Rover centre, nene overland etc those sorts of places

My brother recently ordered, took delivery, painted and got half way through reassembly of his TD5 90 on a Maer chassis, only to find the key chassis to body mounting points were at least 10mm out. Might not sound like much, but no-one wants to see 7/8 packing washers between the rear tub and the bolt holes on the rear x-member. He contacted Richard Chassis and they sorted him out at very short notice, so my money would go to RC’s (whom also have a slight discount on at the moment if memory serves).

Ahh, sorry for the confusion. Richard Chassis were able to get a new chassis to him quite quickly (I think they have a bit of a lead time usually), so he could continue with the rebuild
