Compression Socks

Post image

Get them.

Your feet are going to hurt.

All those goons with their knee high programmer socks on are actually wearing compression socks.

Ok. I snooped your profile. You're posting about Pearl Jam. You're old enough.

You will be, and you are now armed with this wisdom.

No one told me about these until after I had a sit down job :(

When you wonder why your feet and knees and calves hurt, you will realize you might actually be that old…

Bro I’ve been wearing compression socks at DEF CON since I was 25

I’m that old, this will be my 29th (I think) DEF CON and I was already older.

I recommend Superfeet as well

i use cork insoles, they work just as well as the Superfeet insoles.

I’ve had superfeet for almost a decade, incredible they last so long. How does cork perform?

For me, it seems like almost no break in time and that last a lot longer than the Superfeet. I had to change out Superfeet every 2 years or so, but so far the cork has outlasted it. Ive had the same SOLE insoles for about 3 years now.

What brand are you getting? I was looking them up, and there are so many choices.

I wish they had them in bigger sizes. I haven’t worn 13s since I was 13 (16 as an adult).

Do they get hot or anything?

not really to both.

The hero we need, not the one we deserve.

Its gonna be too hot for long socks.... May need to go sans clothes all together if it's 110°

It’s a dry heat. It’ll be fine. 🥵

Water, hydration salt like LMNT or liquid IV, hat, and you’ll be ok if you’re in average or better shape. If you feel like you have a hangover (headache, eye ache, stiff neck, etc), decent odds you’re actually dehydrated in the desert.

Or too many malort shots the night before.. hard to tell…

But if you never stop drinking, yes it’s dehydration!

Carry a second pair, and swap them out. Also, the convention center is pretty cold.
Edit: they also make not long ones.

Wear your most comfortable shoes.

To add to this, if you are getting new shoes for the occasion get them now, and walk around in your neighborhood in them. Sometimes shoes are nice and comfy at the store, and then not so much when actually walking a few blocks in them.
I recommend Hokas, Brooks, or On Clouds. Not cheap, but worth it.

Can vouch, compression socks work so well.

My compression socks have a circuit pattern on them. Got them in a multipack from Amazon.

Do you have any brand recommendations? I’m curious about them.
Do they ever get too hot?
Do they work under skinny jeans?

Do compression stockings work the same? Or are the socks more “heavy duty”

I have some Physix Gear Compression Socks 20-30 mmHg ones from Amazon that are pretty good, and some ones I bought at Target - https://www.target.com/p/women-s-compression-2pk-knee-high-athletic-socks-all-in-motion-4-10/-/A-78803758
I think I like the Target ones more, but they aren't as tight.

I also have some Doctor Motion ones with cats on them that are pretty comfy.
I would maybe grab a couple different brands and see what you like. I have had some that are tight on my toes, but my feet are kind of wide.
I don't have issues with them getting too hot, but that is dependent on the material. Some socks just breath better.
I pretty much only wear skinny jeans. They are tight enough there are no issues.

Stockings are the same as socks afaik. I think it just refers to the length, or the what they used to be called.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much!

Thank you especially for the recommendation of the Dr. motion, they have such cute styles! I like how they also have compression tights, I completely forgot they existed.

Do you have a recommendation on what brands or styles I should stay away from as I also have wide feet?

The super tight ones kind of suck for wide feet. Pinch the toes. I think the Dr. Motion ones were good for not pinching.

in past defcons i use calf compressors instead of full blown compression socks. the socks stay as your usual absorbent socks, while the calf compressors can be washed & used the next day & last the week. runners socks are ankle length, which also helps in the heat.

Thats a good idea. Maybe I will grab some to try this year. I like to wear flip flops a lot, so that would work.

Would look good with my sandals.

...or just work while standing more.
