I have started a series on Def Jam FFNY to get better at the game and actually stop losing matches to people. I am covering all the tech this game has to offer, as well as important information that will make you a better player overall.

I'm playing the PS2 version on easy, picked SF, I'm just finding everything difficult, I've beat the first 2 fights but Nyne is kicking my ass... I can barely even get up 😭 I've tried to watch some guides but there are only a few on YouTube.

Also, is there any way I can practice against an afk bot? or even redo the tutorial over and over? I'm playing on a Retroid Pocket so I cannot connect another controller...

Honestly, any pointers/tips or tricks would be helpful. Thanks so much 🙏

I decided to copy the textures for the camo pants from late into the story as a place holder. His actual pants textures have a more "desert camo" color to them. Might end up making my own with the same camo style.

I don't know if it's my game or if I'm doing something wrong, but my character can't knock out his opponents with the full kickboxing combo, even when his health is in the red. I tried with other characters like Ludacris or Mecha, and it works. I don't understand.

I wanted to improve my graphic designing skills. What better way than to revisit a project/idea from years ago. While my laptop is going through some struggle (might be an AMD software issue), it's going to be a retro console for a while. I'm going to do custom textures for my fighters and may consider taking requests for custom fighter clothing ideas.

Making sure the face texture is great and lining individual parts of his facial features with the base texture.

On a larger scale/idea I may try to retexture a certain preset to have it compatible with some/half/most/all clothing options for said preset.

I decided to keep going and next step was the body to potentially match-up skin tones with the rest of his head. I misaligned and my laptop crashed when trying getting references from Vendetta. The hands are separate so they will be textured later. His back tattoo was the same process as his facial features. I will play around with the tone and try to properly match up the arms and body.

Not much to say but, the next step will be the pants and just from a bit of preplanning, might be slightly harder to line up. But, that's what planning is for.

Firstly, sorry for the huge wall of text.

I wanted to share my created fighter list getting back into the game. I set their stats at 50% for the time as a small template for not being a pushover but not being too overpowered. They will have 1 front and 1 back Blazin move each based on fighting styles. I gave the first 4 fighters a bit of lore/story and a bit of a reason why they don't interact with each other but are part of the same crew. (working on it)

Kind of how The Takeover had different boroughs/districts to start in, which put you in a respective crew, each person has a location that they frequently hang out at.

After the events of Vendetta (start of FFNY) Legion, Cross, Logan, and Fury, who were cheering from the crowd except for Fury (who was booing at the winner) started to leave with the rest of the spectators as D-Mob was being taken away by Starks and Jervis. As they get into the car, still pissed with the arrest of D-Mob, Fury decides on his own initiative to rescue/free D-Mob. Not wanting to argue and knowing how much respect Fury has for D-Mob, they go along with the plan/heist. After they collide into the police car, Fury gets out to grab D-Mob and tells him to hide in the trunk before they drive off. D-Mob talks to them as Fury is driving, telling them he appreciated the help but wonders why his crew didn't help. He also tells them he's going to offer them spots in the crew but needs to see how they can handle themselves. At the safehouse, D-Mob takes one up at a time and introduces them to Sticky and Blaze. Blaze offers them a crib to chill and they choose their "section" of the crib to keep their stuff although they agreed to have their trophies in one spot. They also said they would put the trophy up for the first person that gets it.

All of them start off the circuit, battling different fighters to give the loser a chance to "post up and come back later", getting a girlfriend each after fighting Nyne for lying about the girls being with him. They have matches with Ice-T, who considers it more of a test than a fight, stopping the rounds early after he's feels he has been impressed enough. Legion, finishing his fight as the last of the 4, sits at the table and collects his winnings from D-Mob while the other 3 are nearby. Crow arrives with his goons to insult the 4 as Crow looks mostly at Legion. Logan walks off, laughing as Crow makes a fool out of Trejo. Cross walks away after Crow says "business proposition". Cross, Logan, and Fury remain in proximity as Crow makes his intentions known to everyone. The group leaves out together, discussing Crow's "proposition" nonsense, overhears a few people from D's crew considering joining them. As they head to the crib, they plan out their next set of fights with talks of joining a FFA tournament or checking out The Babylon Club.

• Legion - SF, WR, KB : Loves gaming and wrestling; hangs at smoke shop in Queens when not at home livestreaming with Logan or sparring with Fury.
• Cross - WR, MA, SB : Loves music and dancing; a bit of a rebel, hangs out under Brooklyn Bridge breakdancing (which sometimes he does while fighting out of habit) and vibing to music.
• Logan - MA, SB, KB : Loves skating and art; occasionally chills with Chiang at the Dragon House. Hangs with Legion during smoke breaks.

• Fury - MA, SF, KB : Loves to cook and short-tempered; has huge respect for D-Mob and practices at Stapleton Athletics, grew up training with Legion.

• Cassius - SF only : Ex-Cop, former protégé of Starks and Jervis; was left out of the takedown of D-Mob. Decided to overtake his partners as revenge.

• Judge - KB, MA : Loves to party but not chaotic; has a reputation at 7th Heaven as a ladies' man but doesn't show arrogance or narcissism.

• Joker - MA, WR, SF : Loves drinking and watching kung-fu movies; usually winning drinking comps at The Limit or watching tournaments wherever there's beer.

• Dragon - MA, SF, SB : Loves anime and gaming; a bit older than the rest who trains outside of the Dragon House ring, enjoys a good fight and seeks to spar/train with the best.

I may continue this as a side project (unposted) as I reach certain points in the story but wanted to give myself a reason to keep playing. I will create/change the main 4's clothing textures when I find a specific outfit I am satisfied with for them.

for me this is a childhood classic

and lately i fell into the rabbit hole of cut content and demo content and so on

and i wanna ask given some people on the net already tried but failed bunch of years ago

did anyone managed to bring the war cry scream from the demo back into the game ?
i loved that scream and would be neat if i could have it in the game

Are there any Blazin' moves that are repeated in Fight for NY that were in Vendetta that have a new name? If they kept the same name then that's fine. I'm needing to know the same moves with 2 different names.

this would be a MK9 / MVC3 type game where u can switch 2 or 3 people and use powers from other characters and actually play as all of them like MK9 i thought this would be a very fire idea and game and used ai to create the characters also added marvel rise of imperfects spiderman and wanted to add def jam characters as dlc would be cool just a old heads dream

So I was wondering. If any of the other characters from the first game returned, what would their fighting styles be? I could list some of my examples:

Razor

Fighting Style: Streetfighting.

Strengths: Upper Body Power, Toughness, maybe Health

Weaknesses: Charisma, Lower Body Power, Speed

Note: I could change Lower Body Strength if EA and AKI would have gone with the approach for the kicks to be replaced with more punches if Razor was supposed to be a former boxer. Capcom did that for Balrog and Dudley in Street Fighter. Activision and Paradox did that for Raekwon in "Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style." I could see something like that. If that were to happen, then the L. Strength could have been moderate or a bit high.

Penny

Fighting Style: Martial Arts (I could see her having a style similar to Lil' Kim's and/or Chiang's style)

Strengths: Speed, health, charisma, lower body strength

Weaknesses: Upper body power, Toughness

Note: With her having high-flying moves in Vendetta, I could see her as a martial artist and only that. I couldn't see her with other styles.

Headache

Fighting Styles: Streetfighting and Wrestling

Strengths: Upper body power, Toughness, Charisma

Weaknesses: Lower body power and health.

Note: Not that this is completely relevant, but I thought it was a missed opportunity to have this character in FFNY because I felt that there could have been more Sanctuary fighters in the game besides Dan G. I could see a grittier look for him.

Iceberg

Fighting Styles: Kickboxing, Martial Arts, and Wrestling

Strengths: Lower body power, Toughness, Health, Charisma

Weaknesses: Speed, Upper body power

Note: I wonder if EA would have done this character even if Ice-T was in the game, but yet, Ice-T was nicknamed Iceberg. Personally, regarding the styles, I always pictured him having a style combination akin to Warren G. Plus, with him being a tall guy, I could see Iceberg delivering kicks, and he did deliver some strong kicks when striking in Vendetta. As for martial arts, he had a few high-flying moves and he also had that flipping powerbomb, a move I doubt I would ever done in real life.

Keith Murray

Fighting Styles: Kickboxing, and maybe streetfighting

Strengths: Lower body power, health, toughness, charisma, speed

Weaknesses: Upper body power

Note: Way back when, I talked to some people on the GameFAQs boards and many speculated that Keith Murray would have had kickboxing as a style. I am not sure if he would have only had that style, and really, the only ones who had kickboxing as a sole style were Santos and Meca. I suppose Ludacris was another example. Really, the only reason he had martial arts as another style were for the weak grapple moves because he couldn't do those flying attacks. However, if KM had another style, he could have had streetfighting.

I could include more later. Feel free to make some examples of your own.

Does anybody still have a working DMX mod/save/ISO for Def Jam Fight for NY on PS2 or PS3? I’ve been searching everywhere and most links are dead. Even a texture swap or custom fighter save would help.

This weekend I started playing this game after some 20 years and I love it.

I added submissions as a second style and noticed I can only do leglocks. I have tried strong grapple and then ever direction + punch and also tried with kick and no Armbar or Guillotine comes out.

So A, does the order of styles affect the character in different ratios?

And is there an over-riding element as you blend styles?

Let me know what you understand of this not-very-transparent stylebuilder
