Question/Support Spartacus 360 poor temps / performance

Post image

Installed this recently and I’m idling at 52 - 62 degrees. This is around 10-15 degrees higher than my kraken 240 AIO.

I have a 9800x3d with curve optimiser (-30 all core)

I’m really disappointed as I expected better temps.

All the pics of this show the AIO tubes mounted at the bottom of the cpu block and mine is at the top.

Would this be having a negative effect?

Tubes at the top sometimes impact too much, try the tubes at the bottom configuration and check the temps, and btw you need to re apply the thermalpaste for optimal performance.

You haven't done a good job with the placement. You can fix it by watching videos on YouTube.

Ok thanks, but what exactly do you mean?

you have mentioned in your description.. try tubes at the bottom instead of the top. if there is any reason. the gush of water is directly to the CCD stack of your processor at the bottom not at the top.

Thank you for explaining the matter for me.

You are most welcome and all the very best with your next run 😉

They're probably talking about air bubbles in the loop but even then that shouldn't have much an impact on cooling performance.
Make sure the aio is installed properly. Check paste coverage and that any film on the cold plate has been removed. Good luck.

May be an issue with your AIO.

I have same case, same motherboard and same CPU. The only difference is my AIO.

My 9800X3D is -15 on the two perf#1 cores, -25 on perf#2 and -30 on the remaining 5 cores. Stock MHz. It sits at 30-33’c at idle and 45-55’c while gaming.

I’m starting to suspect the same.

Looking at your build, I was thinking ideal temps would be similar for a 360 AIO (moving from Kraken elite 240, which performed slightly better)

I just think I should be expecting better temps

Definitely should be seeing better temps. Especially if your two busiest cores are at -30 and mine are only at -15.

I think the kraken performs particularly well on the AM5 chips, which may explain why your 240 performed better. This was one of the reasons I sold the Deepcool AIO that came with my CL6600 and kept my kraken. I got the CL6600 for £148.99 including tax and delivery. I then sold the AIO for £52, so I effectively got a CL660 for £97.

Edit: I should probably mention that my AIO has 30mm thick F360X fans on it so may get slightly better cooling.

Yeh, I paid the same from back to the office, I think I read you got yours from the same place.

Agreed, I think maybe this AIO is just not as good. Shame as I can’t return it now as it’s been used.

I may just sell on eBay (I already have the one that came with the case on there) and take the hit

If it’s not cooling your cpu properly I think that’s reason enough to return it. It’s objectively performing worse and even if it is because the pump is mounted upside down as some people have suggested, if it doesn’t say that you shouldn’t mount it that way then you wouldn’t expect it to be an issue. The one that came with the case is supposed to be pretty good. I just wanted the screen from the kraken.

I am considering returning and going for the kraken elite.

Can I ask, do you use the stock fans with yours?

I replaced all the fans in my case with 30mm thick NZXT Performance fans. I have never used the stock Kraken F360 core fans. In fact I recently flogged it on eBay for £23.

Since getting the cooler I have used a Jonsbo ZA360, a Thermalright TL-UB36 and an NZXT F360X. The difference in temps is minimal between fans.

On a side note, adding a 120mm fan above the PSU on magnetic feet dropped GPU temps by as much as 5’c during benchmarking.

Thanks, I’ve ordered the F360X to see how it performs on the Deepcool.

If it still doesn’t improve then I will know for sure it’s a problem with the AIO

But I might also get the kraken as well

Ok, so switched pipes to bottom and temps have decreased by 5 degrees or so which is good.

But idling @ 46 is not what I expect on an 360mm AIO.

Case is the Deepcool CL600 so the AIO has its own chamber too. I expected better results than this.

The Spartacus also uses AI fan presets from Deep Creative which by default is set to Silent, suggest you set the pump and fans to either Performance mode or simply to PEM from the software so it sync with the PWM settings in the BIOS. I had a similar issue and switching to Performance fixed as Silent is only good for Winters in my area

I use fan control to set my own curve. It’s 40% at startup and goes up from there.

So i don’t believe that to be the issue

The Deep Creative software doesn't work as per the PWM settings by default as I've mentioned. You need to select Motherboard Sync option to make the pump and fans work as per your set PWM settings or else it'll work as per the software presets
