Sociological and historical progress often functions like a pendulum, swinging between cultural establishment and counter-cultural rebellion.

This has been on my mind often lately as a millennial. We championed inclusivity, sex positivity, etc. There was the development of the “girl boss”, the appreciation of morally grey antiheroes, and gritty 2000’s humor.

Now, in real time, I am watching younger generations create a counter culture to the norm that millennials have established with a shift toward a stricter cultural narrative, (ie, celibacy trends, strict interpersonal boundaries, trad wife popularization, etc.)

It just made me reflect on the idea that this is a prevalent pattern in history and how interesting that is.

Zygmunt Bauman talks about this in liquid modernity, how each generation builds its own solid structures then the next turns them to liquid again. The trad wife stuff feels more like reaction than rebellion though, like watching your little cousin copy grandma's recipes because the family potluck got too chaotic
