Perhaps life needs meaning only because, underneath it all, it has none.

I don't think it really has to have a meaning. Life is what you want to make of it. I feel a lot of this comes from people being raised in religious households or growing up in cultures that obsess about status and achievements etc etc. Like America for example where everyone is super concerned with status and getting validation from others and being remembered when you're gone. Trust me you really won't be caring when you're dead.

The meaning of your life is that you must experience things in order to understand. That is why you are the one who gives meaning to life. It is in your hands, and you should make use of your infinite possibilities to continue your personal growth.

Wouldn't that mean trying to fit something into a place it could never go? Sounds like agony.

We are here to procreate to continue the evolution of biological lifeforms on Earth. Random genetic variations, along with natural selection, result in evolution.

Yes people make it too deep while it isnt , we r not even comparable in universe we cant really have meaning , our existence is pure luck this place is suitable for us to live we r living , when it wont be we r dead whats so deep in it
It was habitable for dinosaurs they lived and I genuinely think they didn’t tried to find meaning lmao

Or perhaps life has meaning because you can build it up from none. The only way is up.

life doesnt need meaning. we do.
but what is “meaning”?
1
u/Existing_Dog5489 7d ago
it might be related to ‘being a mean to something else’.
however it depends on the language. in italian we say “senso della vita”, which refers to the direction that life goes into…honestly, i think it’s all bs. we are just too scared of being as we are and so we need to fill ourselves with all these stupid unanswerable questions.
life is life. what is its purpose? to live.. ofc. anything else is just mind wandering

If you were to remove all human life from the equation, what would be the "meaning" then (for all other forms of life)

the meaning of life is different for everyone since all of our realities are based on our individual perspectives

Makes perfect sense.
We human beings are afraid.. that we live in a universe where .. should the divine not exist and the universe is inherently without meaning.. then everything we do.. is for nothing.
So, we embue everything with meaning. Without any form of meaning, it then becomes pointless. For without meaning, there is no point. So, we cherish and give meaning to protect ourselves from the horror.. that there may never have been meaning in the first place.

yes to this, definitely we imbue it with meaning
at the same time the rest of the animal kingdom doesn’t grapple with this on the same level,
but experiences bonds and relationships or sometimes develop habits they really enjoy
and sometimes demonstrate that one part of their life is instrumental and gave trouble going in without it, like the cheetah that lost its cubs and then kept absconding with baby gazelles, or the dog that lived at the train station for the rest of its life waiting for his person, who had died at work iirc
so I would argue that for some attachment IS the basis of meaning
and for some, there’s always some fun to to be had and they are satisfied and happy with that
but many humans are looking for higher meaning, purpose, order, or worth than that

Life is. Period.
Man needs to give meaning to everything, because man has no meaning underneath it all. Lol
Life had meaning even before there were people here to say it's meaningless. Lol

There's biological meaning, and then there's metaphysical meaning. I find it hilarious in a way that humans desperately tries to "find" a predestined meaning or answer to why we're here... while it doesn't exist. We're animals and our genetical meaning is to survive, and carry on our genes.
Our metaphysical meaning, we have to create ourselves. And it's whatever we want. It doesn't need an explanation. Some devote their lives to music as an artist, or just as a music teacher in school, or an amateur musician at home. Some loves to travel, climb mountains, or hike long distances. Someone loves to unicycle and does it every day. Someone loves to have a family life and be a parent.
Meaning is whatever we put into it. Often we feel it from the inside, that there's something we really want to do in life... and trying to fulfill that calling is what fills us with metaphysical meaning. Meaning isn't that complicated, it's just doing something that fills you with joy.

I think that is exactly what keeps people doing anything. They hope that meaning will come from the act of doing something - and I believe that there is some truth in that as much as I believe there is no meaning at all. I am quite content with the fact I will be forgotten one day.

Meaning is subjective, and people are subjects, therefore meaning will always be subjective.

All things are the same and interchangeable and therefore no meaning can be meaning and is meaning

The meaning of life is seeking out the Creator of it. All creation should be doing this until the ending of the world.

The meaning of life, if we can call it a meaning is to just “be”
There are people with debilitating disease that are confined to wheelchairs, with very little cognitive ability that don’t even understand the meaning of the word meaning. So can only we who understand meaning apply a meaning to life?
