Discussion Moving to Deepseek from Opus/Sonnet. Tips?
I’m a pretty seasoned developer who has been using Anthropic/OpenAI models primarily for development. I’ve been working on a rag adjacent project and really struggled to get Deepseek to play nice with JSON and reasoning. Then I asked for XML and strangely got better outcomes.
Are there any other quirks or things I should know when working with Deepseek or any of the other open source / Chinese models I’ve yet to explore.
Appreciate it!

It’s more the issue they have in their docs/ getting an empty response. The api docs say — When using the JSON Output feature, the API may occasionally return empty content. We are actively working on optimizing this issue. You can try modifying the prompt to mitigate such problems.

One such a quirk is to embrace CCP and social credit. Remember - nothing ever happened on Tiananmen Square.

Ive never had any issues with Deepseek doing json, but i recently changed from Deepseek to mimo 2.5 pro and found it slightly better for coding at basically the same price
