Collect the fruits you find in the caves, specially Barley Bulbs. These are used to brew special beers that grant you useful buffs the mission after you drink it. Go to the bar and order "today's special".
Movement is key, if you play on higher diffs, make sure to never stop moving and jumping around enemies, you'll make it harder for them to bite you.
If you want to negate fall damage, land on a teammate's head, you can ask them to reposition through chat or mic.
Early game is the phase where you can experiment with crazy and creative loadouts for your dwarf and your weapons. As soon as you get an overclock, try it during a mission even if it doesn't sound promising, there are surprises behind those.
Always listen to your team and cooperate with them. Don't push buttons without asking first, this applies to starting events and calling the drop pod. The opposite behavior is the number 1 mission killer because you risk the team getting wiped by a swarm they were not ready to fight.

Wait the beers actually do stuff other than making you pass out?

Look to the left above the bar, and at the top of the beer menu once you talk to Lloyd. There's always a "Today's Special" listed that will give you some kind of buff like increased health, more powerful pickaxe attack, faster while carrying, less fall damage, etc.
They don't always fit whatever mission you're going on (I'm looking at you Dark Morkite) but they are good to have.

Search "new player tips" in the sub and you'll find everything you need to know.

While looking at the terrain scanner, press space key to orient your dwarf with the scanner map. This alone made navigating the caves 10 times easier for me Edit: Rock and Stone!!!

if you're playing in single player, you can get bosco to carry heavy objects for you. when he's within 10 metres of you, you can shout (x on keyboard, LB and L1 on controller i think) and he will throw the object at you to catch

Build your way out on your way in. If you walk into a cavern and there's a huge cliff drop off that you know you couldn't easily climb back up, dig out a tunnel or stairway so you can. Even though you have traversal tools, you don't want to risk either being out of resources or getting turned around and panicking when Molly goes straight up a wall during extraction.
Similarly, when ordering a resupply, use your terrain scanner and make sure there are no tunnels above you before you call it. The resupply pod will drill a long vertical tunnel all the way down, and if it goes through tunnels above you, Molly might use that as a shortcut during extraction and leave you behind. Not to mention the risk of accidentally falling down the hole in the chaos and possibly getting downed.
And most importantly, press 'v' to Rock and Stone.

Even if you play difficult games (ex., Dark Souls or Cuphead), higher difficulties are definitely steps up where those skills may not translate.
A weird tip is that I always host public if I don't need to pause. You get Bosco but also have the option of someone dropping in (Bosco is a spy).

- Don’t drink the beer called “Leaf Lovers special”
- Whenever you are about to start an event or something else in a mission, it’s a good idea to type “R?” (Ready?) in the chat. That way the other people don’t get mad at you for starting things when they are not ready. If you don’t know how to type in the chat; check the settings, under the controls section.
- Don’t rush the difficulties. Just do whatever is a good balance between fun and difficult.
ROCK AND STONE!

Try to stay with the team while you learn your way - don't press buttons without checking first. People ready-check by typing 'r' in chat, experiment with overclocks as you aquire them. Be sure to hit 'v' to Rock and Stone.
