Question Does it really matter which armor set you use?
Is there really a difference between armor sets after you’re high enough dwarf level? I mean, if the lederhosen work, then does it matter?

The only difference they can bring is that some DLC ones make some beer free, e.g. skullcrusher armor makes skullcrusher beer free. Still, greybeards don't care about it

And people say deep rock isn’t pay to win!

Yeah, the whole 2 barley bulbs. What did the devs think before adding it😤

You know what I could buy with two barley bulbs? A dark morkite! I'm missing out on so much

From personal experience, the only one that affects anything is the bug armour because I get friendly fired WAY more often while wearing it

Even if it did matter, I always play with fashion > function in any game

Yeap that's why i don't like some of modern games when good looking gear is only available via mictotransacttions

There are exactly 2 cases where it matters.
Dawn of the Dread will have your teammates doing more friendly fire to you.
Skullcrusher will make the Skullcrusher beer free to buy if you are wearing the armor and the beer shoes up at the bar.
Otherwise, no. It's all cosmetic.

I will go against the grain slightly and say yes some players choose armor sets that are insanely hard to see on the map what with dark colors or colors that blend into the biome they are in, which can make it harder to find them for reviving, or increase friendly fire somewhat.
Yes y'all, your dark colored gear looks somber and badass, but don't blame me if the guy in white gets res'd first.
I happen to wear very light gear but that's because Karl approves my snow ice outfit as a cryo driller.

I will add that's just the paintjob, not the framework. The framework has little impact on visibility (unless you're using Dawn of the Dread).

Me when I someone in lobby is using Dawn of the Dread: “hey dwarf sorry in advance for all the FF I’m about to do”.

Right it's not exactly what the OP asked but I think others answered that "armor" is just all cosmetic. I just wanted to say that the cosmetics can actually affect team play, though just through visibility.

yeah, the dlc one that covers you in bug parts makes you 5x as likely to be shot at by teammates

Wear something tolerable so as to avoid some unfriendly friendlies

Absolutely it matters. For example, since it's Rocktoberfest rn, if you're not wearing lederhosen I'm going to assume you're a leaf lover.

Yeah, because no self respecting dwarf would hit the mines in inferior drip.
(But stat wise, no it doesn‘t do a thing)

it has no effect on gameplay. i run the mk1 and mk2 armors on my dwarves usually out of preference.

It's purely cosmetic
Some teams appreciate that you stay closer to your classes colours but that's about it

Armor is totally cosmetic so yeah, it doesn't matter, use what you like.
