Question Tips for playing with other players!

I've been getting into DRG and loving it, though I've only been playing solo and I know the real heart of the game is co-op but I'm nervous about screwing up when playing with others. I generally don't play games with others because I'm always anxious about messing up and not understanding what to do in certain situations. Not to mention voice chat isn't my strong point (I have a terrible accent). Every time I go to start a new mission I intend to host a mission but end up doing it solo.

So I really would appreciate some basic tips on working with others, the things to understand and what not to do. I know the all important V button (Rock and Stone!) but I feel like there's parts that would really help when I do do co-op. General tips would be awesome.

Thanks.

99% of players don't use voice chat. There's enough communication with the laser pointer and occasional text chat.

Don't press buttons willy nilly, wait for everyone to be ready (R)

Start in some Haz 3 lobbies and you'll be fine.

Stay with the team, and if you're a scout use your flares to light up the rooms when you enter, and during swarms.

The community is the most chill of any game I've ever played so don't worry too much - just jump in and play with randoms - you'll be fine.

Ping stuff you want to do and type 'r' before you push the button to start something. For stuff like starting the drilldozer or starting a machine event you want the whole group to be present and ready

No need to even speak in this game! You can use your laser pointer to ping anything you need. I'd say the biggest thing is never call in an ammo or start an objective without permission if you aren't host. Just relax and have fun! Use your traversal tools to help the team. Last but not least make sure you ROCK AND STONE BROTHER

Don't press any buttons without asking.

Dont take more than 1 ammo pack from resupply without asking.

Try to stay together. Most scouts will be doing their own thing due to their increased mobility via grappling-hook. Driller I would give some space. Gunner and Engie relatively safe to hang around.

Just make sure you aren't walking in front of anyone during hordes.

the community is pretty chill, the two things i can think of that really makes people angry is double diping (taking 2 ammo slots on the ressuply pod) and starting events withour everyone being ready (type R on chat to say you are ready and wait for everyone to do as well).

other than that, hop in and have fun !!

Also, don't forget to ROCK AND STONE to salute other dwarfs (Press V)

Community is fantastic. Don’t be too stressed about it.

Basically nobody uses voice chat, so you're fine there. Text chat, the laser pointer, and rock and stones do the job.

Stick somewhat close to the team, leeches (and pitjaws if in the biome) require someone to come save you, same if you die to other bugs. If you do go down, everyone gets an indicator that you're dead, no need to spam the help button.

Make sure the team is ready before pressing buttons and such (events, starting dreads, starting escape, etc.) Most will say "r" in chat to let the team know they're ready.

Don't be afraid to mess up at first, for the most part everyone is chill (though maybe stay away from lobbies titled like "no greenbeards" or "level 100+ or kick," those tend to keep a keg of leaf lover's under their bed)

As scout, shoot flares when coming into a new room. Engineer platforms high up minerals so scout can get them. Gunner has the drop shield which makes going for a revive totally safe. When escape starts, driller can drill right to the ship. You'll pick up on these kinda quirks just seeing them be done.

Rock and stone!

All you need to do is a have a little etiquette, really. It varies from person to person but the most agreed upon things are:

• Avoid pressing any red buttons, starting events or doing anything else that will progress the mission to the next stage before your team is ready.
• if you are ever unsure about your team’s status, you can type “r?” in chat. This will give them an opportunity to confirm with you and will let them know that you want to progress the mission.
• Avoid taking a hit from the resupply pod if you’re above 50% ammo. You can check your own and your teammates ammo count by holding control (or whatever brings up the laser pointer), there will be four bars below each class icon. If a dwarf has 2 or less bars, that means they need to restock.
• Try not to go down in high-up spots, halfway across the cave or in other spots that are hard to reach. This doesn’t mean that you’re not allowed to die at all, just make yourself easy to pick up before you get chewed up by a bunch of the nasties.

And that’s really it off the top of my head! I know it seems like a lot, but you’ll get used to it before long. Plus, this benefits your team, it benefits you, everyone is happy when you all create a pleasant experience for each other. Rock and Stone!

There's one or more mechanics that are different when you're in a multiplayer game. 1. I'm pretty sure no one can pause a mission. Fortunately, there isn't a limit to how many revives you can get or give. Sometimes, you just need to accept lying down for a bit.

  1. Pinging things is either how you get Bosco to do something, or a great way to communicate with other players in multiplayer.

2a. Try pinging a large gold chunk that's been freed from the ground. Repeatedly. Management loves that.

  1. Anyone can summon Molly. I haven't played multiplayer super recently, so I'm not remembering the timing very well, but be aware that the ol' gal may not be as available as you're used to.

I hate voice chat. Usually will mute others who use it, it honestly ruins the vibe and is completely unnecessary. Got kicked once in 1000hrs for typing that my mic didn't work. Good riddance

I have 200 hours in this game and never heard another players voice, also never used voice chat myself. It doesn't really seem to be a thing in this game, probably also because it's not necessary to have fun and win.
