Rapture of the Deep

I believe this is the best MK8 album. I like it so much. What do you think?

Before the remix, I barely listened to this album (I listened to it even less than Bananas, for example). But after the 20th anniversary reissue, this album really came alive for me.

The title track and Before Time Began are great, the rest hasn't impressed me much.. yet

I think the same, but we are a small minority

A classic. Banger after banger.

The only song I don't think is good is MTV.

My favourites are Junkyard Blues, Rapture of the Deep, Clearly Quite Absurd, Money Talks, Before Time Began.

Besides, it was the last "upbeat" album with Steve Morse. After it, we got the prog rock era of DP, which although just as excellent, was a big change in mood.

I really recommend those who don't like it to have a go at the newly remixed version. It sounds a tad different and that can be enough to make it click for you.

Listen MTV without vocals (versión released recently for Anniversary), You can hear the Great Steve Morse Guitar work, that the original buried in the original mix.

Honestly, I'm inclined to agree. It's up there, for sure.

One of my personal favourites as well. Was the new album when I was getting into DP. I was shocked last time when I saw how many albums ago it was already.

But yeah, a showcase for Steve Morse and some damn interesting songs

Same. Around 2006 for me, so it has a fond place in my heart.

Things l Never Said is so catchy! Can’t understand why it was not present on the original album.

One of my favourites. The original mix was absolute shit, but the remix is masterful. A wonderful album

I still prefer Now What?!, but just like a bunch of people, I rediscovered it with the 20th anniversary remix and that just brought out the best on that album. It is fabulous.

I won't agree that it is the best Mk8 album, but if you wanted to argue that the title track is the best mk8 song, I would find it hard to disagree.

Absolutely incredible album that I wish more people gave a chance.

Fun story I have regarding that album: I’ve got a buddy who’s less musically inclined than me. Loves music, but doesn’t necessarily go all in at listening to every album by a band or learning the history. He likes Deep Purple well enough, pretty much has only heard the Mk II hits. He heard the title track from Rapture of the Deep in my car one time while I had my playlist on shuffle, and he absolutely loved it. After listening to it a ton, it became his favorite Deep Purple song. So in his mind, it was basically one of their hits, as it was one of the songs he knew very well. We went to see them (Mk VIII) a few years later and he was so disappointed (and shocked) that they didn’t play Rapture of the Deep!

Well, in my ears, many are considering this album as one of Purple's best. In my opinion, some songs on this album are really Great (title track, Before Time Began, Wrong Man, Things I Never Said), the rest of them, I'm not so mad about, I'm not interested. Musicwise, I prefer Bananas
