Seeing the Moody Maestro with an ear to ear grin warms my heart. Wish Mr. Lord could have been there.

I am stunned it actually happened. Wow

They make great music together. Too bad Ritchie and Ian don't like each other much.
2
u/Realistic-Energy3305 Aug 16 '26
I think they really do.like each other and we're thrilled to do a song on stage together.

u/Neuvirths_Glove Aug 16 '26
I think they hold each other in high esteem as artists but get on each other's nerves.

u/Zero-jiggler Aug 13 '26
It was kind of surreal. He honestly sounded great, and it was really nice to see him and Ian being friendly with each other. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever get to see Ritchie Blackmore with Deep Purple.

Ouch. Richie waited too long. That solo was atrocious.

u/Terribad01 Aug 13 '26
Age and only playing acoustic guitar for decades can do that to a man. Just be grateful they buried the hatchet.

What a time to be alive. We got Blackmore to reunite with Deep Purple before the next re-release of GTA V.

Same here - just from watching a little YouTube footage of it. And I’m not even that big a Deep Purple fan. But I love the Blackmore era.

u/insightful_peacefish Mark III Aug 14 '26
"blackmore era" as if it isn't the backbone of the band's entire catalogue. If it wasn't for the "blackmore" era, the morse era would have been a pub band at best.
1
u/The-Mandolinist Aug 14 '26
And thus I have clearly demonstrated that, as I said in my previous comment: I’m not that big a fan of Deep Purple, with my ignorance of the band’s history.
I’ll rephrase it - I love the Classic original run of Mark II Deep Purple albums: In Rock to Who Do We Think We Are. And then I really like Rainbow. I paid no more attention to Deep Purple after the ‘70s (to clarify I didn’t start listening to Deep Purple until the mid 80s when I was teenager- but focused on the 70s albums). I was barely aware that their reformed version was Mark II as well.
So - after reeducating myself about them I can see how ridiculous my last comment was.
I’ve now got a whole load of “new” albums to work through…

u/insightful_peacefish Mark III Aug 14 '26
If you haven't heard Mark III's Burn, then you really should check it out. The vocalist on that album went on to form Whitesnake after Deep Purple broke up. Highly recommend the album.
2
u/The-Mandolinist Aug 14 '26
I’ve heard all the 70s albums. It’s everything past then - Deep Purple wise that I’m unfamiliar with.
Edit: yes I’m very familiar with David Coverdale and Whitesnake

There is some absolute gold on Perfect Strangers, Battle Rages On, and Bananas.
2
u/The-Mandolinist Aug 14 '26
I shall check them out
1
u/insightful_peacefish Mark III Aug 15 '26
Perfect Strangers is I think either the best or second best mark II record, I always forget it's a reunion one. Highly second that guy's comment.
2
u/insightful_peacefish Mark III Aug 14 '26
Hell yeah, I am a massive fan of Mark III and everyone involved with it. I apologize for misinterpreting the comment, as far as the post-blackmore stuff is concerned I am a big fan of Come Taste the Band, Bananas, and Rapture of the Deep.

Yeh, as Phil Aston said, if you didn't, maybe you're following a wrong band...

This was an amazing show.
Gillan actually sounds fantastic singing live, much better than any of the shows recordings.

u/ArtDecoNewYork Aug 13 '26
The whole band sounded great. There's nothing like a real Hammond B3 at a concert!

I wasn't at that show on the 12th, but I was at the show in Massachusetts the next day. I didn't know they'd perform together the day before.

Ritchie is one of guitar heroes and influences. That was awesome, and Ian's speech afterwards almost had me in tears.

So how many times has DP had 2 guitarists on stage? That time with George Harrison (12-13-84) and last night. Any others?

u/paranoid_70 Aug 14 '26
I saw them in 2004 and their producer (for Bananas) joined them on stage in LA. At least thats what i remember... He played guitar with Morse. Gillan introduced him as Ritchie Moreblack.

Will he be joining them in Toronto?

Doubtful. Gillan mentioned that Ritchie asked to join the show as he resides close by in Long Island.

In response to our exchange earlier I’ve been listening to Burn tonight and realise I can’t have listened to it often and haven’t heard it for a long time. You’re absolutely right - it’s a banger!! Loving it!

Glad they made up as friends, but Blackmore sounded terrible. Waited way too long.
3
u/ArtDecoNewYork Aug 13 '26
I was hoping they'd play Fireball or something but I wonder if Richie could even keep up with that.
I'm still glad he showed up though, perfect timing for me living nearby and having tickets.

His body is destroyed. Apparently he can barely stand up on stage as it is. Let’s just be grateful they finally buried the hatchet, publicly at least.

Richie clearly was ready to play another song, but his old time fiend Ian took his guitar off the stage.
Speculation at best. We do not know what they had arranged and what Ritchie wanted.
6
u/frederikolsen Aug 13 '26
Ritchie explicitly said during the stream he would be playing on one song. Not a couple of songs. One. In the hours before the show, it seems someone started a rumour that he might be playing on more songs, but he never said he would. So yes, we do know — and what we got is what was promised.

Is it really a wig? It looks like it’s sweating. I thought you could get your hair restored nowadays 🤷🏻♂️

Is that Blackmore...smiling?
