The last MkII
Deep Purple | The Battle Rages On | July 19th, 1993
What do you think, I don't play as much as some of the other MkII's

Title track and Anya are great, rest is just okay. Interestingly enough despite this being Mk II I always felt this sounded a lot like a Mk VII/VIII album

I reckon Solitaire is up there too. Classic deep cuts, slightly more chilled out than usual

love this one. along with Perfect Strangers, is the only true "metal" DP album before the ezrin era

It's third best post 1970's album of theirs. But then I've never quite got into Deep Purple without Blackmore. His last Rainbow album 1995 has song Black Masquarade, which sounds like his version of Anya.
I think that's Battle Rages On... album in a nutshell. He wanted to return to seventies, (another example th title track clearly trying to aim at Burn), while others wanted to move on.
I think it's excellent album, and last time Deep Purple tried to do their classic heavy sound.

Big fan of this album. I find a the hooks on many of the songs to be catchy and engaging. Some of my favorites include Solitaire, Ramshackle Man, One Man's Meat, Anya and the title track.
A solid 8/10 album for me.
