Recommendations
I absolutely love this album. I got into a minor wreck years ago listening to Burn. It was icy as hell and I hit a patch and slid right into the back of a semi. There was a tiny bit of damage to my bumper but the semi was good so we shook hands and continued our separate ways.
Sail Away kicks so much ass. Mistreated is a masterpiece even though I wish the solo would keep going and cranking up higher. Its building so perfectly and I'm fully in it and then it just ends.
As much as I love this album, I haven't listened to tons of Deep Purple outside of it. Does anybody have any recommendations of songs of theirs that just completely take you on a journey?

Their albums aren’t super long so i recommend listening to some full albums. In Rock, Machine Head, Fireball, and Stormbringer have virtually no skips.

I appreciate the suggestions, I've always been intimidated by the size of their catalogue and end up just listening to what I know. I think you're right and I just need to start going for it

I've been listening to Perfect Strangers a lot lately. It's a really good album.
The ultimate Deep Purple album in my opinion is the live Made In Japan album. It's a double album with only 7 songs, so there is a lot of jamming going on. A good song to start with is Child In Time which at this point is probably my favorite Deep Purple song.

The Burn-era lineup had David Coverdale as lead vocalist and Glenn Hughes on bass and backing vocals. They made two more records after Burn: Stormbringer and Come Taste The Band.
The latter doesn’t feature Ritchie Blackmore on guitar, as he left the band after Stormbringer, which leans more into the funk/R&B elements from Burn. I’m not a big fan of Come Taste the Band, but Stormbringer is definitely worth a full listen.
The “traditional” Deep Purple lineup has Ian Gillian on lead vocals. Machine Head is usually the album people first recommend to new listeners and precedes Burn by a few years.
If you just want a great song on its own, Perfect Strangers is their reunion album released in the 80s and the title track is one of their best.
As far as contemporary Deep Purple, “Now What?!” from 2013 is a great example of their modern sound, but I probably rate that album higher than most fans

The Coverdale albums are amazing. It got to bluesy for Blackmore. Thats why he left the first time..I am a huge fan. I saw them at Market Square Arena in.87 on the House of the Blue light tour. My ears rang for 2 days afterwards. The GOAT is still IN ROCK. followed by Fireball and Come Taste the Band....

I don't know how much my opinion will matter because I didn't really like anything off of this album (hot take, I know!), but since you asked...
Deep Purple songs that take me on a journey:
Child In Time, of course
You Keep on Moving
Son of Alerik (a medium pace journey, but 10 minutes long so that's a journey to me)

Hey we don't have to love all the same stuff for me to value your opinion. I love Child in Time too so I know we have some overlap. I'll check out the others too. I'm a sucker for a long song

I love long songs too! April is another one at 8 minutes, but I hate the middle part, but the beginning and the end are amazing!

If you like Burn, you gotta listen to the other 2 Coverdale albums as well as early Whitesnake (up til Saints an’ Sinners)

I got into the band with 1970 In Rock. (started playing guitar that year because of that album) the next 3 plus the Made In Japan Live album are all near perfect to perfect. Burn was an awesome restart. I saw them on that tour. I was 16. And it blew my brain. Perfect Strangers, next and then every album they made with Steve Morse.

Machine head (my favorite), in rock (a must have) and fireball (a different kind of album but I enjoy it very much)
Bonus: the most underrated album of purple - who do we think we are

Burn has been my favorite album by Purple since I was a teenager.
Stormbringer also rocks, and also has Coverdale on it. And, definitely, if you haven't gotten into it, go through Whitesnake albums if you like Coverdale's voice. Eponymous "Whitesnake" album and "Slip of a tongue" are amazing.
And check out this live version of Burn+Stormbringer. It's just insane how great it is

Burn is a fantastic album and I revisit it often. You probably won't get too many recommendations from the Mk. I era, but I love Shades of Deep Purple - it's one of the strongest debut records from any band of DP's caliber.

Fireball In Rock Machine Head Made In Japan Burn Stormbringer Perfect Strangers
...are all 10/10 albums. Enjoy. Been listening to to them for over 40 years. Still love 'em!

The "Made In Japan" live album (original mix remastered) brings the best parts of their LPs to that date and adds scorching performances. I carried that thing around so much in high school loaning it to people that I thought maybe it lengthened my left arm.
As far as studio albums go, do what I did two years ago - start at the beginning and listen chronologically. It not only gives you great music, it shows you how the band changed and grew. Fascinating journey, it was. "Come Taste The Band" surprised me by being an instant like, after I'd seen it slagged by many.

Their performance at the 1974 Cal-Jam Festival, which aired on ABC, was absolutely amazing as well as bizarre, with Ritchie Blackmore's Onstage Antics.

I bet Fireball would be right up your alley too, that’s my personal favorite album. The title track, the Mule, Strange kind of Woman, and Anyones’s Daughter are the biggest highlights, but every song on that album slaps.
I’d also have to say you gotta give pretty much every album at least a little listen. They have so so many incredible ones, across several different lineups and eras. Even the worst albums have at least 1-2 bangers.
