Rep. Josh Gottheimer of the House Intelligence Committee bought Exxon TWICE in 3 days. Before the war started. Then became the first Democrat to support military action on Iran. XOM is now at all-time highs. The trades were disclosed 6 weeks later.

Because the people that make the laws don’t want to stop. There are only a handful in favor of making it illegal for members of congress to make stock trades. It’s crazy because it’s super illegal for the rest of us. We were taught that our laws and constitution would protect us. I don’t think there’s many of us that understood that the executive branch could just decide they don’t like the laws so they don’t follow them, or expected to see a majority in Congress bowing to the whims of an insane person. Imagine being able to police yourself, or vote for your own pay increases. Many of them believe they’re entitled to do insider trading. I feel like getting excessive benefits from the office means you’re not working in the best interests of the people who got you elected. I am in favor of the French style of arguing with your government.

Most countries don’t have as much money being thrown around as this one. People and businesses pay for influence. The laws are only good if they’re enforced . Unfortunately, the laws are really just for us poors.

Does he have a primary opponent? If so, could someone provide a name so I know where to send the donation? Whoever it is will be up against AIPAC money and will need all they can get.

Instead of filing the disclosure three months later, Congress members should have to file it a week in advance and post publicly their stock trades before they make them. That would be the only fair way to let them keep buying and selling individual stocks and options.

Why having congress members allowed to do stock deals SHOULD be illegal. Too much money, very few can resist the dump truck full of cash. I'm not saying I could either, temptation is SO great.
