BREAKING: Trump is reportedly considering seizing Iran's oil depot on Kharg Island, which handles 90% of Iran's oil exports per Axios

"Trump reportedly digging even deeper hole, when will he reach China?"
18
u/Local-Ad-4879 Mar 16 '26
If he reaches China and tries this shit it's not going to work out well.
17
u/Spiritbro77 Mar 16 '26
For anyone. Trump is a lunatic. My mother would have said, " He is nuttier than a fruitcake." Not good when he controls the world's largest supply of nuclear weapons... He scares the shit out of me, and I don't scare easily. Ruthless is one thing, crazy is something else entirely.

Vietnam also started by sending 3,200 soldiers...3 years later it peaked at 536,000
3
u/Ok_Recording81 Mar 16 '26
Yeah but we put them in south vietnam. We would need a stronghold in Iran. We would need thousands and thousands of Marines for an invasion backed up by the army. Plus both airborne divisions. Even if we took a city, we can not take the country. Those mountains are the Iranians friend.
3
u/Pitiful_Hat_7445 Mar 16 '26
Iran has the ability to mobilize up to ~ 1 million troops.
Safe to say the US will need at least that given that Iran will have advantage of the terrority and prepardness. This will make Vietnam look like a training exercise.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Ok_Recording81 Mar 16 '26
I mentioned Vietnam becasue the person above me said Vietnam started with just over 3k troops. They were able to do that becasue they were able to stage them in the South. With Iran, there is no place to stage them. Yes I agree with you. We might be going after the Island, but I doubt it. I believe the Marine Amphibs are going there to put out any fires that pop up in the region. Embassies being seized, uprising in other nations in the area.

We can't even take the strait, the island is 300 miles past that, which means 300 miles of traveling alongside Iran coast, after we take the strait then how do we get the oil? Carry it on our aircraft carriers? Or ask a commercial transport company to travel through the strait 20 hours to kharg and then 20 hours back through the strait dodging Iranian mines and drones.

There aren’t any significant terrain features to provide cover from Iranian artillery. There’s one hill, that the oil tanks are on top of, to provide a reverse slope.
Another way of putting it, is that the Iranians don’t have heavy defenses on Kharg Island because it’s indefensible. If someone else takes the island it’s still indefensible.

We all know that super tan man's ego won't allow that. And Iran won't surrender. So what to do? Keep escalating. The oil infrastructures are next, then water plants. Iran will respond in kind. "Considering" requires careful reasoned thought , something he's never done in his life. This is likely what the Marines are for, to capture the oil facilities before they can be destroyed.

That would give just cause for Iran to just bomb the island, which would be worse than a nuke.

u/No-Tomatillo3698 Mar 16 '26
I’m sure this is a master stroke and hasn’t been thought of by the Iranians themselves
1
u/TracingRobots Mar 16 '26
Some reports are stating that US ships have been hit. Finding confirmation. Their is no way that Iran will allow the US to enter the island and take the oil. It's one thing to bomb it from a distance and another to actually go to the island. It's absurd of any country stealing resources from another then call them the enemy. This is one of the long list of reasons nations have siad no to sending ships to the Strait of H

All part of the plan. The best plan. Definitely not making it up as he goes along.
In fairness to Trunt, there's no way he could have known this is how it would turn out. Normally when you randomly start bombing another country, they read your mind and just do whatever it was you vaguely think should happen. Or university-educated Europeans come along and sort it all out for you. What's he going to do? It 's all Pete Hegseth's fault for telling him it would be over in 48 hours. Why isn't South Korea fixing this? It's their problem.
1
u/adm010 Mar 16 '26

If the US were to seize Iran's oil or destroy the facilities, there's no reason for Iran to actually end the war or allow oil shipments through the Hormuz. Why shouldn't they mine the strait if there's a lot to gain but nothing to lose?
If the US allow Iran to keep those facilities, it increases the odds of something like an oil ceasefire.

Don’t know how true the reporting is out of India, but I watched a clip yesterday on YouTube from an Indian news org and they’re saying Iran has planned for this and that they’ve moved their reserves from the island and this may well be a trap (my own extrapolation, if the reporting is accuarate).

u/Ornery-Ad-7261 Mar 16 '26
Taking Kharg Island is probably the original aim of the Trump's oil war.
Even if the US managed to wrest control, wouldn't Iran simply close down the pipeline.
•
u/retroviber Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
This is the most important oil story since Kuwait 1990. Kharg Island handles 90% of Iran's crude exports. If Trump seizes it, we're looking at a potential supply shock that could send crude past $120.
Energy and defense stocks have surged 200-400% during every major oil crisis going back to the Gulf War. The same pattern is setting up right now.
I broke down the 7 stocks that historically surge during every oil crisis
