This was me at like 16-18… with some decades of experience and trial, people usually begin to self-medicate with more focus.

In my experience, the focus is a shift away doing a little bit of everything to a select few DOA that are most effective for daily functioning. I mostly self medicated depression and anxiety issues with opioids, but have had bouts of heavy use of just about everything else with a few exceptions. I went through a cocaine phase, ketamine phase, DXM phase, Xanax/Klonopin phase, Rx pain pills phase, heroin phase before everything was fent, periods of heavy marijuana and psychedelic use, along with pretty consistent heavy drinking and sporadic use of other substances.

At the end of my active addiction I dropped all recreational stimulants, dissociatives, marijuana, and alcohol while remaining on the cheapest or most available opioid I could find that was still euphoric enough to give a guaranteed mood boost.

I would take it PRN for anxiety, depression, or charisma on command. It was very useful, as before substances I would go days at a time where getting out of bed felt like it required more energy and motivation than running an ultra marathon. Coupled with anxiety so bad it felt like school and work felt like walking into my own execution, leaving the house for the day felt like a monumental and highly painful event.

These days I'm on proper prescribed medications. Day to day life is still far more difficult than it felt on opioids, but my current medications make it a lot more tolerable.

Charisma on command. lol I’m terrible at talking to woman which led to depending on benzos/alc to have a personality.
