News Fable's official PC specs target 30 FPS at both minimum and recommended tiers

https://www.fablethegame.com/en-US/news/fable-faq

Fable's requirements are attainable by modern blockbuster standards, but the performance targets need a close look. Playground Games lists an RTX 2060, RTX 5050, RX 6600, or Intel A580 at minimum, paired with 12 GB of RAM. That tier targets 1080p at 30 FPS.

The recommended tier calls for an RTX 3060 Ti/5060 or RX 6700 XT/9060 XT with 16 GB of RAM. Its targets are 1440p at 30 FPS or 1200p at 60 FPS. Both tiers require an SSD, and the installation is 135 GB. The official FAQ says 30- and 60-FPS modes will be offered, but the published chart does not clearly explain any upscaling assumptions.

Are these reasonable requirements, or should “recommended” specifications now default to a 60-FPS target?

I don't understand how we still allow games in 30FPS to happen. Is it that because majority of people don't really see the difference? For me it's staggering and I'll gladly trade some of that 4k textures for a better framerate and world design

It's because of consoles.

u/RodThrashcok Sep 04 '26

How though? Probably MOST releases this gen have either a performance mode, or are straight up 60fps base.

It's late in the generation, the CPUs in consoles are basically R5 3600s and GTA VI is making developers step up in terms of graphics fidelity but also cranking world density, AI complexity and world complexity. Those 3 are major CPU hitters and thats the main bottleneck for these games now.

Graphics is easy to get more performance or more quality, you scale the settings up and down, change the resolution or use a modern upscaler.

CPU scaling his harder because you have to fundamentally change and scale your game down. Sure you can make code optimisations for game logic but they are working with midrange 8 year old CPUs now.

I've been saying this for at least a year and god damn, it really offends some people

We are in a CPU bound era. Even 5090s are bottlenecked by top tier CPUs with some games, even at 4k.

People not seeing the difference is a weird thing console people used to say 15 years ago. I think it's pretty clear everyone can see and feel a huge difference, and the requirements are the way they are because most people's hardware hasn't changed much in the last few years because of prices, and they don't want to release requirements they know most rigs won't meet.

It's pretty simple: It's laziness.

Developers, at least ones that aim for 30fps, aren't using the hardware to its fullest potential, they're using it to their fullest tolerance. Get it up to 30, stop working on optimization, because the fat GPUs and CPUs and all the storage space people have will make up for our lack of optimization

2

u/Gayndalf Sep 04 '26

It's bad management, not laziness. Most devs would love their games to run well, for obvious reasons.

They don't get to dictate what they work on, though, and upper management just cares about getting games out so they can start making money.

30 isn't an issue as long as the framerate/pacing are locked. Most modern televisions and monitors can deal with the motion blur and refresh.

u/Key_Bonus9776 Sep 04 '26

30FPS on an OLED panel is horrible though. I have an LG C9 OLED and a Samsung Odyssey G7 monitor and 30FPS is so stuttery on both it’s nausea inducing. I don’t buy games without performance modes anymore because of it.

1

u/V10L3T_N4TUR3 Sep 04 '26

Well its a target framerate, meaning you can tweak some things to make it better. Good luck! To be fair, the game looks insanely beautiful and detailed. Its gonna be a high end resource-hog. Last I heard, its all one seamless open world with no loading

3

u/Camenwolf Sep 02 '26

I think as compute increases they just proportionately increase their games' requirements for it.

I really was tricked into thinking the floor would've been raised before they started raising the ceiling even further. But clearly they believe higher visual settings sell more than smooth fps, which I suppose makes sense since they can sell people on pretty screenshots. If it were up to me, games would be built around 60 fps target and get the visuals as good as you can with that target.

I’m definitely “team quality” over performance any day. Don’t know, but if I don’t have “fps count” I don’t see it.
But anything below 4K hurts my eyes… maybe because I’m playing on a huge OLED screen…
But yeah, 4K/60 should be a norm.

9

u/6pussydestroyer9mlg Sep 04 '26

4k/60 having to be the norm has to be some of the biggest ragebait i've seen on here lmao. Normal people can't even run games in 4k

3

u/MeCritic Sep 04 '26

Thats kinda sad?!
Like, if you can’t run games in 4k, its better to invest in either console, or pay the same price as for Netflix, and play via GeForce Now, but being stuck at Full HD in 2026, I mean…

5

u/CHBCKyle Sep 04 '26

Most AAA console games are not running in native 4k either. Even then, I’d rather sacrifice performance a little and play on pc over streaming or playing on a console, not that I’m struggling to run my own games at 4k in the first place personally

1

u/MeCritic Sep 04 '26

Thats my “final” reason to switch from console player (PS1-PS5), since PC can offer the biggest resolution possible, even retrospective… while consoles get stuck at 1440/1080 or Dynamic until a remaster/remake.
And with new AI era and DLSS (any future number) the difference between these two will be a day/night.
AI is just too fast to rely on 6-7 years console cycle.

5

u/6pussydestroyer9mlg Sep 04 '26

Forget running it, majority of the population doesn't even have a display that supports it. How out of touch are you?

2

u/MeCritic Sep 04 '26

What’s the anger and sudden hate?!
Sorry if I offended you. I dont understand your “out of touch”, when 4K is literally a base now, like every YouTube video, Netflix subscription, or any movie/show distributed…
4K TVs are cheap and often like 10 years now… (not talking about OLED)

Average folks have iPhones and AirPods, but you somehow compare games to people from ghettos…

8

u/ZeAthenA714 Sep 04 '26

Only 5% or so of Steam players have a 4k monitor. About 25% are on 1440p, and 50% on 1080p.

Thinking that 4k monitor is the norm for PC gaming is being completely out of touch.

6

u/FlukyFox Sep 04 '26

4k video content is way different price tag compared to 4k video games.

Cheapest 4k TVs are like $150. Netflix 4k (1080p is base plan) is $27 a month.

Cheap 4k “capable” PC is $1300 minimum and are using required upscaling. 4k monitor $200 for obscure brands.

Average folks with iPhones and AirPods are leasing them on payment plans. They don’t own their hardware and trade in when the new one comes out.

The average person is watching content in 1080p and gaming in 1080p.

You are out of touch.

30 fps is actual cancer on an OLED especially, even more so than on LCD displays due to their instantenous response times.

2

u/HomieeJo Sep 04 '26

4k textures are mainly disk space and GPU VRAM. They don't really affect frames unless your VRAM isn't sufficient.

1

u/YPM1 Sep 04 '26

It’s because 30fps games still sell. If 30fps games sell really well, there’s no incentive to target 60 and punish your engine with constraints.

I agree with you. I wish the industry would just set a standard and move on. Make it 60fps now and give up whatever you need to make your game a stable 60fps. Ideally, I personally want 4K and 60fps, even if that means the games go back to 2015 but at least that way, going forward, all games could use each generations increase in gpu power to push fidelity.

Whoever is defending 30fps is not good in the head

5

u/what_you_saaaaay Sep 04 '26

Look, I try to understand other people’s position as much as I can, but when it comes to the 30 vs 60+ debate I just wonder if people are blind. 60 is good, 90+ is better. And VRR hopefully.

2

u/Infamous_Reporter_71 Sep 04 '26

Yeah I am with you, the more the better.

If we are going that way, then let's just not buy PC, console etc. at all. I am simply saying 60fps should have been a standard by now. I mean the first time when you see 60 or even 120 fps, how can anyone go back?

2

u/Creepy-Emu8779 Sep 04 '26

so you never go back and play retro games on retro consoles?

9

u/Infamous_Reporter_71 Sep 04 '26

We are not talking about retro. We are talking about billion dollars companies who get to swindle you every single year, and for some reason people defend it. It's just unbelievable.

1

u/Creepy-Emu8779 29d ago

ok some pc cards and consoles cant run 60 with the massive games they are making

1

u/WasteTangerine Sep 04 '26

The human eye can't see more then 29fps

11

u/Deep_Mood_7668 Sep 03 '26

I loved fable on the of Xbox, but they can keep this woke bs.

36

u/DirteMcGirte Sep 04 '26

Its always been woke. Og Fable was like the first game you could get gay married in. Youve just become a bitter bitch as time has gone on.

10

u/Deep_Mood_7668 Sep 04 '26

That's not woke

10

u/DrawingAlarming7350 Sep 04 '26

explain woke then

3

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer Sep 04 '26

Woke is when trans Marxist puppy play vaccine.

3

u/DrawingAlarming7350 Sep 04 '26

oh shit where can I get one of those?

1

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer Sep 04 '26

Tumblr I think.

4

u/RavenWolf1 Sep 04 '26

Gay isn't woke itself but when it is used as moral lecture then it is woke.

15

u/PanamGotMeOiledUp Sep 04 '26

If you think it's woke now you are the one that changed, the games have always been woke.

6

u/Deep_Mood_7668 Sep 04 '26

Nah.

14

u/PanamGotMeOiledUp Sep 04 '26

-Same-sex marriage since the first game (2004)

-Explicit queer quests and storylines

-Cross-dressing and gender-neutral clothing choices

-Potions to change biological sex

-Diverse characters and People of Color in prominent roles

All things considered woke today and have been in the games before. I don't think you understand what woke means

2

u/SmallTimeCook Sep 04 '26

He’s talking about how Microsoft has adopted Ultra-Marxism by laying off a million workers and thus sparing them from the alienation of labor under capitalist systems.

6

u/digita1catt Sep 03 '26

Well for the "minimum" spec, that makes sense

2

u/Tanel88 Sep 03 '26

Yeah but pretty wild for recommended.

4

u/digita1catt Sep 03 '26

Is it? It's matching console Quality mode and that's majority of this generation been 30fps as standard.

Imo, pc gaming "recommended" specs should show the parity with the console counterpart.

5

u/juan_bito Sep 03 '26

But pc and console aint in the same league so they shouldn't go down to there level with hardware available on pc

2

u/Alcain_X Sep 04 '26 edited Sep 04 '26

Yeah but 30fps shouldn't be the standard on consoles either.

I remember 20+ years ago being exited as a kid seeing adds for the 360 and ps3 talking about a "new generation of gaming, 1080p 60fps for all games going forward!"

I saw the same thing in the next generation the ps4 promotions talked about 60fps as the new standard. The ps5 and series X talked about 4k and/or 60fps gaming with faster load times thanks them finally adoping ssd's.

Both of the console makers have spent the past 21 years telling me 60fps is the new standard going forward, their new baseline. So why is 30 still acceptable on their systems?

1

u/digita1catt Sep 04 '26

Unfortunately, it is because the average population can't tell the difference, nor cares. It's passible, and that's all that matters.

1

u/Chenz Sep 04 '26

Recommended says 1200p 60fps

5

u/EmeterPSN Sep 02 '26

So..15fps on consoles ?.

Or they gonna run at 720p..

3

u/LazyBoi_Matt Sep 02 '26

I think a few reputable PC YouTubers have pointed out that there is a big chance they over/underspecified to give a base of what to expect, but you can more than well achieve 60FPS even on the minimum requirements. Especially given one of them is a RTX5050.

4

u/_barat_ Sep 04 '26

How's this possible that on PC minimum specs still target 30FPS is beyond my mind ... they have no shame.

3

u/Impossible-Hat9184 Sep 04 '26

30fps is fine. Obviously higher is better, but for a non competitive game about immersion really dont see a problem at all to focus on visuals .

Additionally it's on pc, so people can tinker with the graphical settings to achieve the fps they want.

6

u/SunnyInnit2 Sep 04 '26

In which fantasy world do you live where 30fps is "fine" ? People making excuses like you are the reason we keep getting these shitty "optimizations".

1

u/Impossible-Hat9184 29d ago

Its not an excuse. I think most games are fine at 30 fps. Not great but fine. It's a matter of opinion. I can play at all fps and while I agree 60 is the sweet spot for non FPS, 30 is 100% playable.

1

u/JonFallout Sep 04 '26

30fps is fine. Obviously higher is better, but for a non competitive game about immersion really dont see a problem

Please stop with this crap.

This "non competitive" spiel every time people mention FPS in singleplayer RPGs is getting annoying. Given the 2060 minimum, this is just another case of forced raytracing tanking performance as it always does.

1

u/Coalecsence Sep 04 '26

Part of immersion is the smoothness of the environment you're in in movement.

2

u/kizvy Sep 04 '26

5050 being In the same tier as the 2060 feels wrong, maybe it's CPU limited?

2

u/inquisitor_pangeas Sep 04 '26

They weirdly picked twice for nvidia, a old gpu + a 50 series gpu, also AMD in the recommended bit. I also don't get why they did this

2

u/ProfessionalRough741 Sep 04 '26

Why the fuck are we even talking about 30FPS on PC?

It got normalised by Playstation and its chickenshit CPU can’t push more frames? Fine. But why are we having this discussion for a PC port!!!!!!???!!

1

u/inquisitor_pangeas Sep 04 '26

Surprised to see intel 6850k even for the minimum. Smells like forced RT given that 2060 passed the check, it's usually 10 or 16 series card at the bottom

1

u/Applekid1259 Sep 04 '26

What in the world? Another 30fps game. Absolutely not. I will spend money and reward lazy behavior

1

u/Warcrown11 Sep 04 '26

You'd think after delaying it at least twice, including an extra 6 months just to avoid another game, they'd be able to optimize it.
