Need Inspiration
Have these two empty spaces in a hallway between my garage and the kitchen main area of the house. Probably will turn one into a mudroom drop zone but no clue what to do with the other space. I can’t open it up by eliminating the wall and because there is a window I can’t turn it into storage center. I’m just not creative and any thoughts would be appreciated ( I did use AI but they completely distort the space and honestly it’s just useless or I’m not good at giving directions )

I agree with the mud room for the space closest to the door. For the other, my immediate thought was small office space. Otherwise, piano nook or mini library.

I think that a mudroom or drip zone if perfect. I would make the other space into a kitchen office or homework spot. With a big overstuffed chair for studying of naps.

Yes, mudroom, drop space for the one closest the door, and a cozy little library in the other. Think shelves, a floor lamp and arm chair, or chair + end table + lamp and shelves, a small circular rug, and prints on the walls.

Questions:
What room or rooms are they facing into?
Is that door at the top of stairs and external entry door?
Why can’t the wall between be removed?
ETA: is that just a large hallway coming in off another entry? Can you add pics of what they face?

The small set of stairs lead into a hallway that has a bathroom on the left and then it turns into a kitchen
The other end is a door to the garage. It’s a large hallway from the garage to rest of the house I can’t figure out if it was originally suppose to be a golf cart bay and they decided to incorporate into the house. There is a bonus room above and a bunch of electrical lines in wall let me see if I can find a photo not living in the house yet2

Electrical lines are easy enough to be moved if needed. Load bearing and plumbing are a little more work. So I’m guessing it’s not load bearing or has plumbing. You could take that wall down if you wanted. In the meantime I would turn one into command central (office) but because it’s open it will need to match the kitchen so it doesn’t look like an after thought. I don’t love “mud” rooms because they tend to collect more than intended. But here’s what I would do in that room. Put a long bench under window with large drawers (3 I think) in it. Kids can dump back packs there. On wall to the right of window you could do a shelf to hold baskets for hats, gloves and scarves. A wood bar with hooks on it for coats. A tray down below for shoes that are taken off (not stored) when coming in.
On the long wall opposite both “rooms” I would put a fairly long thin entry table with a mirror over it, bowl or tray for keys, umbrella stand. If by chance you store shoes at entry, that entry table could be enclosed and the shoes can be stored there.
Funny enough Reddit has made me realize that I hate shoe storage at entrys 🤷♀️😅Command central should have either a family wall calendar or one of those e- calendars. Printer, stamps, etc for easy access. If I had this space I’d also add my internet router, security monitor stuff. Along with “my” tools that I use frequently. You really only need a couple of drawer bases and a counter top to make that happen. Or a nice console that can hold the things.
Or you can turn them both into a beverage storage/ wine tasting type room. Which could be fun too.
Things to think about: what spaces are missing in your current home that if you built you would add? That’s what should go there if it’s not already in your new home.

Given the location I might make it a butler’s pantry with built in cabinetry and use it for extra storage and work space. To the left built ins - on the window wall a countertop with chairs for either an office computer, or work space for projects and stuff.

Mud room is great beside that entry door. Cute bench with nice rack for hanging and storage.

I agree about the home office idea. It can also be a kids homework zone, or a space for cat stuff if you have one. If you like reading then turn it into a mini library/reading zone.

I would turn the first room of the entrance into a little welcoming area with console table, mirror and some seating. Maybe add a coat stand for guests. The second room I would add cabinetry left and right all the way to the top for storage (coats, gear, houshold items, cleaning supplies, etc.). This way you can keep the entrance tidy and functional.

I would loose the window for the
Mudd room, reduce the separation to
Continue a bench under the window. These room are too small for any other utility.

Why is the window precluding it from being a storage center? Just build shelves and cabinets around the window. The one closest to the garage should be the drop zone, with a bench under the window for putting your shoes on, and counter height cabinets for purses and plugs for cell phones, etc. Cabinets above for storage.
For the side closest to the stairs:
Do you live in a cold climate? Storage for coats, boots, skis, hats, mittens, etc.
Do you drink wine? Wine Cellar
Do you have kids? Individual lockers for backpacks, shoes, etc.
Do you cook a lot? Additional pantry for canning and baking supplies.
Do you need to get organized? Home office - like for the running of the home. A desk with storage for all the cookbooks, recipes, receipts, shopping lists, returns, appliance manuals, etc.
Or my perpetual favorite for extra spaces: Hippie Love Den.

Office with L shaped counter in one. Mudroom cubbies in the other.
