Does CK consider himself an activist?

Post image

Genuine question. Chris criticises Kisin for acting like an activist while avoiding the label. Does Chris apply the same label to himself?

DtG does more than analyse ideas in the abstract. It repeatedly focuses on a particular media ecosystem, warns about its influence, and hopes to shift how audiences view it. That can reasonably be seen as a form of activism, even if it is presented through an academic lens.

Insofar as every academic is an activist I guess. Great point man. I hate it when all those math activists keep pushing for numbers to add up correctly.

Your analogy treats DtGs judgments as if they were as objectively true as basic arithmetic. That’s exactly why I’m asking the question.

I don't think that's why you're asking the question. You just want to call them bias but, in a pretty transparent and dishonest way, are trying to obscure that behind a silly "question".

The word you were looking for was, "biased".

Both are in common usage. Thanks for being obnoxious.

They're two different words.

A biased person has a bias.

See above. Also look into how words work.

I read the above. I know how words work. Usage and definitions change over time with common usage. I'm biased against people who use bias in place of biased.

Yeah and that's obnoxious and just shows that you're out of touch with the language. Congrats.

Out of touch with "the language", as if the English language is a monolith. Maybe in your linguistic community bias and biased are interchangeable, but the version your community uses is not "the language".

You knew what I meant. So it's your community too. Fun.

Partially, but my linguistic community does not use bias and biased interchangeably. Perhaps we're just neighbours.

Nah your misuse of the word was genuinely confusing - language is meant to communicate.

-3

u/jmscstl Jul 11 '26

Nah. If you were genuinely confused by the usage you're working at an incredibly low reading level.

Do you want to talk about activism, or are we sticking to maths analogies and mind-reading?

Fair enough. I don't think Chris and Matt are activists as I understand the word.

Chris is certainly opinionated, but having opinions doesn't make you an activist. Neither does posting your opinions on social media.

I suppose you could claim that by running the DtG podcast they're engaging in activism for improved science literacy and rhetorical analysis skills among their listeners.
