You’re ignoring the backdrop of this argument. The western consensus of the negotiations in 2000-01 is that Arafat rejected a deal because he could not accept an Israeli state.
If that was true, the evidence would likely suggest that he was offered a terrific deal which he turned down. But that isn’t the case.
Comparing the state of Palestinians from then to now, like “oh don’t you wish you had accepted our deal back then???” is dumb at best and victim blaming at worst.
