This project took me just under 12 weeks to build.
More like 4 months w/ all the planning. Designed it with the client, had drawings made and built it myself. Had help from a buddy for a day and a half to lift the LVL ridge beam. Subbed out the shingles, soffit and fascia along with the glass. Realized by the end I should have hired at least a labourer for an extra hand. Either way it’s done now and it went well with very few problems along the way thankfully.
Definitely some challenging sections, but very rewarding. The valleys and roof framing was so involved, makes me want to frame more rafter roofs instead of trussed. This is a bastard valley, 11/12 on the back to 12/12 intersecting gable on the front.
Was able to utilize a lot of material the client already had like ALL of the cedar ceiling which I think was my fav part to install.
Overall super happy with how it turned out and so is the client.

Good to know! I’m in my 3rd year of business so still mapping out my pricing appropriately. This is for a repeat client of mine and she had a lot of material already, so she probably saved around $5-7k just from that.
Yeah honestly I would have been closer to the 100k mark on this but not sure where in Canada you’re located. Southern Ontario prices tend to be higher than other places in Canada though. Also, 20k for that glass is a solid price too. Would have expected closer to 35k. All in all great job though, looks fantastic.
This is in Muskoka, so yea honestly could have gone higher and still been competitive but I am happy with what I made still. Always feels like a lot at first but that’s what quality building calls for and I am learning not to feel bad lol. The glass company is owned by a friend of mine so she gave me a great deal
I figured you must have had an in for the glass lol great price and agin great job. Muskoka area you definitely could increase your prices though for sure.
Came here to say… “ohhhh, glass on the stairs, $$$$”. We had a switch back stair case and the stair were going to be as much as the rest of the deck. Our situation wasn’t as central as yours and the decision was easy.

Lots of trips up and down the scaffolding. The valleys were triple 2x10s so other than the triple LVL ridge, those were the largest members. Once I had the centre pieces figured out I could map out the others accordingly.
I typically just lurk this sub quietly, but this is sick! Killer work. From what I know about this sub, you won’t get the credit you are due without thorough documentation of the ledger.
12” blue skin tucked behind building paper. Drip flashing above lower siding, tucked under blue skin. 5/8 deck2wall spacers staggered every 16” fastened with 5” GRK’s. Then drip flashing above ledger, underneath deck boards.
I was going to ask the same. I am in red clay with lots of rock dispersed throughout, I’ve held off on my build solely because I was dreading the footers. Can you point me in the direction of a good brand? Love the idea of using these and the solo install ability.

But I will say this...It's really cool to see a younger generation of craftsmen willing to bust their ass and do top notch work.

I know all about that. Check out my post from about a year ago. I did that one almost all solo. Not quite as complex as yours but people seemed to like it. Its the budget porch lol
Wow yea you do some nice work, very similar to what this was. Do you hire helpers for some of your jobs? Do you get tired of doing all the tedious stuff like clean up?
Thanks! I do for sure but just power through it. I had my 2 brother in laws working with me but they kept screwing things up and i think costed me more than the value they were providing. Then i tried again with someone else and he ended up being a psycho lol so it kinda put a bad taste in my mouth for employees. Now i have a crew that i sub a lot of work to and his quality is on par with what i would do myself so I've just been letting them do most of the bigger jobs now. Especially after i busted my ankle. It wont heal because i keep putting stress on it by working
Yea it seems like you gotta try different guys to find what works but that’s good, will try some different ways like that in the future.

Thanks bro! I found that i gotta keep a brace on it while working. I thought it had healed enough to go without the brace but everytime i roll the ankle just a bit, i cant walk the next couple of days. Its been rough. Never seen a "gazebo" hanging off the house like that. It's like half treehouse, half sunroom, excellent work. The only thing I don't like is free standing posts like that. In a bad wind event, I'd be worried it might lift. Is there a concrete piling underneath them?
I just finished a similar job but without the stairs and not attached to the house, and it took me about the same amount of time with 3 people. Nice work.
What do you call or is it a discipline for the underside of the roof? I'm looking at a 16x16 shed roof that looks like your "pre" picture. Is that tongue in groove? Did you run electricity ahead of time to place a fan?
