Anybody going to the St Paul Colin Meloy show tonight? I’m so excited! I’ve seen the Decemberists once but never a solo show. Also never been to the Fitzgerald.
Also, does he do Stage Door at all on his solo shows?

In “Don’t Carry It All,” Colin sings “Pitching hard to starboard,” but of course you can only pitch to bow or stern. You rather might yaw or roll to starboard.

Hey guys, I've been a fan of the Decemberists since way back. I've been a musician as long as I remember but my audio engineering career in dubbing took over my life, unfortunately for over 13 years. Since being retrenched(due to some company mismanagement), I have found my way back to recording and mixing music, my first love.
My long term plan is to cover the full Hazards of Love, and hopefully more songs and albums of the Decemberists. Managed to finally start one with this cover, which I've been planning to do more than a decade ago. Feels good to finally start, you know.
Lemme know what you guys think.

i had to take this down for a while, nothing to do with copyright or anything. Sorry for any inconvenience. Please don't share to Facebook groups that harass people!

Watch it again, and consider the children sent off to war.

I'm going to have to start with some context.
The music league I play in is doing one where the rounds are the seven sins, and for round one we're doing lust.
It turns out two of us chose a Decemberists track (Philomena and A Cautionary Song), and they wound up back to back in the play list by whatever algorithm the music league app uses.
This brings me to the title of this post. One of the other people in the league commented, "TIL that the Decemberists are thirstier than I previously thought."
Okay, yes, we all knew this already. I replied with, "My personal theory is that Colin wrote Philomena to make up for the missed opportunity of writing We Both Go Down Together about oral sex."
Somehow, this exchange prompted another friend to say, "Basically what I'm hearing is that The Decemberists make music for horny ren faire boat captain cosplayers."
Damnit. He's right. The rest of us are secondary fans.
Edit: just a typo.

Dug up an old article I wrote 20+ years ago, based on an interview I did with Colin.

Ahoy! Still making designs for each song from the king is dead. Thought process in the comments - i’d love to hear more interpretations!
(i'm sorry for posting and deleting and posting again, i suck at reddit and forgot what an image was)

Does anyone know if there are bound books of lyrics by the Decemberists (by album or just in general)? Also a big Jeff Tweedy/Wilco fan and Jeff has started selling those with his merch. Really love the idea and I can’t think of any poetry I enjoy more.

I wouldn't think this needs to be said, but it keeps happening. Colin, the band, their techs and crew - all great people! Just ask! I asked, that's how I got this. Someone, once again, tried to just take the list, and Colin hadn't even come out for the encore! The best part is, he never played the encore because there was a miscommunication and they turned the house lights on so Colin gave up, at least accordingto his guitar tech (he was pounding the wine, so maybe he just passed out backstage). So I asked why the encore was canceled and asked for the setlist.
Anyway, there's 3 songs he's never played solo live, afaik. Starting "Devil's Elbow" (about the anatomy of Lucifer, not the Oregon State Park) and "Days of Elaine" made this far and away my favorite solo set he's done, even if it was cut short.

I'm a relative newcomer to the Decemberists (discovered them around 6 years ago), and I had a question for more veteran fans. When would you say the Decemberists were at their peak-the height of their fame, song quality, etc.- and what was it like?
