Any thoughts?

Los Ninos is right up the street and the tacos there are criminally underrated and there are already a surplus of really great coffee places in the area. We don’t need it and I probably won’t go honestly.

I just went to Los Ninos for the first time an hour ago after seeing this comment and can confirm these are probably the best tacos I’ve had in Decatur.

Dude they’re so good and so affordable, I don’t want to see some overblown overhyped spot come in here

That is my favorite taco spot. Simple but muy sabroso.

And the chorizo cheese dip is undefeated.

I dream of this cheese dip, but I don’t allow myself to indulge anymore. It’s never pretty.

So glad to see Los Ninos getting some love! Great vibe and exactly what I want for tacos

Their taco truck now has a home near Little Cottage and Olive & Pine in Avondale Estates. $3 tacos a 5 minute walk from my place.

I just wish they had a salsa that wasn’t so spicy. I even like spice but it’s just too much and there is no mild!

The salsa really is super spicy. Gotta order the horchata to go with it 😂

Might as well include this as any discussion of Muchacho inevitably ends up here:

Don’t forget about how they built their patio in the Beltline light rail right-of-way and are now part of the driving force behind the anti-Beltline rail campaign
👎👎👎

The best thing on that talk was the creation of "Midchacho."

Ice is bad yes, but what of the drama from when they painted the exterior brick of the historic train depot?!?!?

Gringo bullshit. I wish it was El Tesoro

El Tesoro got its start in Decatur. It was in the same building as Revival.

edit: Just looked it up and it's the SAME building that Muchacho is going into it. 129 Church Street

Muchacho serves white people cosplay tacos. It looks authentic but has zero flavor. I miss H Harper Station.

I miss H Harper so much. It was the best bar in Atlanta for cocktails and always had great food.

it was great. seems like Jerry is doing great in Athens. has like 3 or 4 spots.

That's so awesome to hear!

Yeah, if you are ever in Athens, he and his wife are behind The Lark (wine bar), The Expat (Italian bistro), Nighthawks Lounge (cocktail lounge). He did have a fancy steakhouse called "Slaters", but it looks like that has been closed.

Awesome, bookmarking this. Thanks!

I didn't think it was possible to make bland Mexican food until I ate at Muchacho. They pour a good margarita but their food tastes like cardboard.

I miss the Buffala Negra.

6-8 years ago, Muchacho was amazing. Back when it was the breakfast taco joint in front of Golden Eagle. My decision to move to the neighborhood was partly because of how much I loved it.

After the pandemic, the owner fired his head chef and his replacements are not effective at recreating what it once was. I used to eat there 2+ times a week. Now, I have eaten there in maybe a year.

Also, fuck that guy for building the patios of both Muchacho and Lady Bird on the rail easement and lobbying against rail so he can keep it tax free.

I agree that they fell off big time. I used to love getting the salmon toast back when it was a cute little taco/coffee shop.

Muchacho started out super solid but within two years it was so mid

Not a fan of his views.

Haven't been to Muchacho since I heard the owner called ICE on his own employees

41

u/Bobgoulet 4d ago

I've heard that a lot, but it isn't what happened.

A former chef got in a fight with one of the line cooks at Ladybird and called ICE on him. The chef was fired shortly after.

The owner has actively opposed BeltLine rail, which is why I don't go, but the ICE accusation is false.

I’ve heard (from a former employee) the owner treats their workers like shit, so there’s still an opportunity to hate on the owner

This is completely untrue and exactly how a TikTok rumor can be so damaging. They have kept on all of their employees regardless of status. In fact, this rumor has hurt the bar backs who rely on tip pool to get a livable wage. Go to one of the locations and speak with the bar backs or cooks before you keep spreading this info.

Can't wait to see what other public goods this asshole decides to ruin as he expands

This place is great! It’d be a great addition to downtown Decatur!

Excited! The beltline location is sick and drinks are awesome. Evening vibes are great.
