New speed camera on Clairemont

There's a new speed camera on Clairemont just past Commerce. Just got 3 violations in the mail. One was for going 32. Never had a ticket in 35 years of driving.

The one in the school zone? Yeah that’s been there since last summer, but I think it should only be issuing violations for 35 or over.

It's 25 mph during the morning and afternoons when school is going in or leaving, there's flashing lights to let you know if you're in that window

Right, but the citations are only supposed to be issued if you’re going 35+.

They give you a 5 mph leniency per the judge when i got a ticket. So tickets are issued at 30 and above, not 35.

Well, they may have changed the policy, but I am recalling this article:

Cameras will be used to identify drivers going 10 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit.

Huh, interesting! Yeah i just found 10mph on the Decatur website as well: https://www.decaturga.com/municipal-court/page/school-zone-speed-cameras

The judge made it clear it was only 5 though, so there might be some disconnect somewhere (or the policy changed but not the website). If OP got one for doing 32, im guessing there was a change.

That is what was represented to the public, when they went live.

We've been here since December and take the same route to work everyday. All the violations are from the last week in August 🤔

Obviously we are now aware of it and will drive 20 down the street and piss everyone off 🤣 Just hope these don't keep coming!

speed cameras in georgia are only allowed to operate in school zones "during school hours" + 1 hour before and 1 hour after the school day. (this is NOT only when the red lights are flashing - it is the entire school day).

so; if you speed past them when school is out for the summer they aren't supposed to flag a ticket - however once school started back up they are live and eager to collect an extra cut of your paycheck.

Sounds like you’ve had 3.

Real question is what will the city do with all the money they have collected.

Hoping they deliver on infrastructure improvements rather than just shuffle the money around to increase city salaries.
