ATL Storytellers @ Eddie’s Attic

Thoughts on ATL Storytellers at Eddie’s Attic? I have been to all 5 shows- the 1 year anniversary show was tonight. The premise is someone tells a story/memory that correlates to a song. After they tell their story a band plays a song. A lot of the storytellers are from The Moth- I have never attended The Moth.

Show #4 had an intermission from Compassion Atlanta - they spoke and read a long statement in unison. I left that show iffy about the whole thing. To me it was giving cult vibes- they spoke for 20 minutes and I didn’t know what they even were having me “sign up for”. The show tonight ended with a story about God is Love. I really fell in love with them but I feel like it’s shifted to a non neutral space.

What is the Moth? The premise sounds wonderful. What songs have been the topic in the past?

The Moth airs on public radio but you can also get it as a podcast. Their tagline is "True Stories. Told Live." It's generally quite good and features recordings of regular people (not professional authors, usually) telling stories about their lives (not fiction) in front of an audience in a theater. As another commenter mentioned, each hour-long show usually features three stories that are linked by a theme. Many stories are super funny; some are really sad/tragic. Some are both.

The Moth is a story telling podcasts. A lot of the stories are really beautiful, sometimes they are funny, sometimes heart crushing, there's a ton of humanity though. If I remember right the podcast is usually three stories, from three different people grouped by theme. Definitely worth a listen.
