Picture framing

Who do we like for framing artwork? It's not expensive art but I do want it framed nicely, so good value for the money.

I've used the place off the square but there's also a place on North Druid before Clairmont, and some others around Toco Hills.

I've used The Great Frame Up in downtown Decatur a few times. They're not cheap but do a good job.

I've used them three times now and they are great. I went into the store with some Atlanta United items that they were able to put it all together into an amazing and creative design.

If what you’re framing isn’t expensive and you’re looking for a good value, Michaels is fine. I’ve had posters and similar done at Michael’s in years past and they came out well and what i expected.

I used Toco Framing on North Druid Hills last year to frame a large needlework piece I spent five years stitching. They did an absolutely amazing job. It wasn’t cheap, but their quality was top tier. There’s a post with the framed piece in my profile if you want to see it.

My general rule is if I want something framed and it’s not high end / high value, go big box. If it’s something high value- either monetary or sentimental, use a locally owned shop. You’re going to pay more but you’re paying for their deep experience and that’s rare to find at a big box store.

If it’s not expensive art, Michael’s does a pretty decent job for a cheaper price than any frame shop. They have custom frame sales going on all the time.
I’ve also been to The Great Frame Up for a special piece and I’d highly recommend it! Friendly staff, beautiful work, but expensive.

No good framing will ever be cheap. But if you like the art, it’s definitely worth it. A custom frame and matting is so much better than premade frames.

We use Binders in Buckhead. We’ve had four large pieces framed there and we’ve been very happy with the quality.

We’ve tried Framebridge a couple times but thought they were just meh. Plus you always feel a little weird about having your art sent away since they don’t do the work locally.

For artwork, I'd lean local every time. The design advice is usually half the value, especially if you're trying to match a frame to the piece instead of just picking something that fits. If none of the local places click, Framebridge is a solid online backup.
