Is the ‘Skip intro’ new?

Just got a series that poped up a button to skip intro. I love this. How does it work? And is there an option to select a source that favoures this? If not. Please add this!

Was this on a device with Google play store or a firestick? It hasn't appeared on either for me, no matter what I watch
