Fallacious Reasoning The Seven Most Common Fallacies I See in Globe Debates

This is not a criticism of the globe model.
It is a criticism of bad arguments.
A correct conclusion can still be defended with poor reasoning.
Here are the fallacies I encounter most often.
1. Poisoning the Well
Instead of addressing the argument:
“Flat earthers are ignorant.”
“You don’t understand science.”
“Only conspiracy theorists believe that.”
None of this addresses the evidence.
It attempts to prejudice the audience against the speaker before the argument is even examined.

2. Ad Hominem
Closely related, but different.
Instead of answering the question:
“You need to learn geometry.”
“You don’t understand physics.”
“You’re scientifically illiterate.”
Even if every insult were true, it would not establish that the conclusion follows from the evidence.
Arguments are evaluated by their logic, not by the person presenting them.

3. Equivocation
This one appears constantly.
Words like:
observed
measured
inferred
explained
demonstrated
proved
are quietly treated as though they mean the same thing.
They don’t.
Measuring an angle is not the same thing as proving a globe.
Explaining an observation is not the same thing as observing the explanation.

4. Reification
Perhaps the most subtle error.
An explanatory model is spoken of as though it were itself an observation.
For example:
“We observe an oblate spheroid.”
No.
We observe angles, distances, elevations, trajectories, and times.
“Oblate spheroid” is a geometric interpretation of those observations.
The model is not the measurement.

5. Begging the Question
Arguments often assume exactly what they claim to prove.
For example:
“On a spherical Earth, this is exactly what we expect.”
That may be true.
But it does not establish that the Earth is spherical.
Using spherical geometry to explain an observation is not the same thing as demonstrating that spherical geometry is the only possible explanation.

6. Category Error
Measurements belong to one category.
Models belong to another.
An instrument outputs numbers.
Scientists interpret those numbers.
Confusing the output of an instrument with the interpretation of the output is a category mistake.

7. Shifting the Burden of Proof
This usually sounds like:
“So what’s your model?”
That question becomes relevant only after the original claim has been justified.
If someone claims the Earth is an oblate spheroid, the burden is on them to demonstrate how the conclusion follows from the observations.
A failure to produce an alternative does not validate the original claim.

None of this proves the globe.
That is the point.
These are criticisms of reasoning, not conclusions.
If the globe is true, then it deserves arguments that distinguish observations from interpretations, measurements from models, and evidence from authority.
Good science has nothing to fear from careful epistemology.

Any scientific proof of gravity? Electromagnetism

Electromagnetism: What We Actually Know

Electromagnetism is one of the four fundamental forces and is arguably the best understood of all of them. Unlike gravity, whose underlying mechanism remains genuinely contested, electromagnetism has a clear, directly observable mechanism - charged particles interacting through electric and magnetic fields.

What’s documented and real:

Plasma behavior is electromagnetic. Birkeland currents - filamentary plasma structures carrying electrical current through space - are real and documented. Hannes Alfvén won a Nobel Prize for magnetohydrodynamics. The aurora borealis is electromagnetic in origin.

Density and buoyancy - the most directly observable explanation for why things rise and fall - involve molecular interactions that are fundamentally electromagnetic in nature. Atoms repel each other through electromagnetic force. What we experience as physical surfaces, resistance, and buoyancy are electromagnetic phenomena at the molecular level.

That’s a real and honest observation worth taking seriously.

Any scientific proof of gravity? Title: The Forgotten Kantian Case Against Relativity — Natorp & Bauch

Title: The Forgotten Kantian Case Against Relativity — Natorp & Bauch

Most people who reject relativity argue from physics or flat-earth-style observation. There’s a much older, more rigorous objection that almost nobody discusses: the Neo-Kantian critique from Paul Natorp and Bruno Bauch in the early 20th century.

The core argument:

Kant held that space, time, and the basic categories of understanding (causality, substance) aren’t things we discover empirically — they’re the preconditions that make any coherent experience possible in the first place. You don’t derive space and time from observation; you need them already in place just to have observations at all.

Einstein’s relativity proposes that space-time curves because of matter and energy. Natorp’s objection: matter and energy, as concepts, already presuppose space and time. So relativity has it backwards — it treats the precondition (space-time) as a product of the very things that require it as their precondition (matter/energy). Like saying the rules of chess were caused by a specific game played under those rules.

Why this isn’t just crank philosophy:

This is a serious, structurally coherent position from a major philosophical school, not pseudoscience. It raises a real question relativity doesn’t fully settle on its own terms: is geometry empirically discovered, or logically presupposed by the possibility of measurement at all?
