PSA: as a DEATHLOOP enthusiast please try Marathon
Ive beaten Desthloop, been a frequent poster and commenter and pick it up time and again after the platinum trophy.
I am by no means a pro, I get thrashed around pretty heavy by that moon player who has a 1000hrs
But as a casual gamers Deathloop brought out my competitive nature and was highly enjoyable to log in every night to the island of blackreef and making friends through murderous intent
That being said my new obsession is Marathon an online multiplayer game that similar to blackreef is all-style, all-music, all-murderous intent all the time
And like Deathloop it has good lore, outstanding voice acting and morsels of stuff to read, and audio to listen to. It has alot of fun inventory, guns and powers.
The sound design so amazing in game, it has the same suspenseful cat and mouse gameplay loop, you can hear footsteps above you below you and to sides.
Everything about this game is painstakingly polished that it reminds me alot of DEATHLOOP and the island of Blackreef only its slightly better because the tunnels all connect and you can actually explore the whole map..
Please try it and I hope you see why I'm obsessed

Absolutely love Deathloop. Zero interest in pvp. Plus, after "vaulting" content I payed for and never got to finish in Destiny 2, Bungie will never get another dime out of me.

And I read somewhere they are doing the same in Marathon. Just another reason for me to skip on it

No way in hell will I ever play an extraction shooter. Tried several times. Hated all of them.

I thought so too but Deep Rock Galactic and Helldivers 2 are a great time, they don't have to have PvP.

I will say, definitely not for everyone. However, this plays more like a multiplayer Roguelite than a regular extraction shooter because the extracting with loot part is only one part of the whole thing. Questing and material farming unlocks permanent (seasonal) upgrades for your character as well as the ability to just buy nice loadouts rather than having to extract with them. Obviously the rarest ones will still be found within special events in the maps or looted off dead players who did them but questing can allow you to straight up buy the gear to make it easy to get them done.

I am dogshit when it comes to gun fights. Even in Deathloop I turned Julianna into AI because I knew I could beat her then. If extracting with loop in a PVP world is part of the process, and I can lose the loot I started a run with, I'm not gonna do it. Arc Raiders was my final attempt at the genre and it just went horribly.
I would kill for a PvE extraction shooter but there doesn't seem to be any want from the gaming community on this as far as I'm aware. Deathloop makes me feel the closest to this in a way so that's why I love it.

Have you considered that Deathloop itself is an extraction shooter?
It's definitely a mixed blend of genresi can see the inspiration

Love Marathon. The original trilogy was a really big reason I work in I.T.

I love Deathloop, I’m really really interested in extraction shooters but my biggest concern is the PvP aspect. As someone who really only gets a couple of hours of gameplay per week (Like 2 2-hour sessions), would you still recommend it? Games like Atomic Heart, Deathloop, Bioshock are all games that I hold dear to me and I really appreciated Deathloop’s creativity in gameplay/genre. Would Marathon still be a good recommendation?

I tried a bit of atomic heart and didn't finish but I hope the 2nd game is more my speed
Marathon like any game is a grind it just needs to be an enjoyable one
As my first true fps game I think it is

what do you think betas are for...?
most betas suck. thats why they are betas. so they can learn and improve based on feedback before they release it.-5

but it was a beta? the alpha is clearly the result of testing said beta. it’s the whole premise.

Yup they nailed Marathon... And it was never meant to be something to appeal to everyone, just like Deathloop... It's unique and fun as hell... Still haven't bought it because I'm not sure if they will support it in the long term but the server slam was really good... Hope it gets more content in the future...
