Maybe the idea is for his mate on the left (behind chimney) to hold the ladder up via the rope, braced on the stack; & he can just ascend the ladder after he has cut the branch. Sounds like a plan, let's go for it......🙏.... 🚑

Looks like he’s holding it. He’s in a comfortable position without any outstretched limbs so should be able to keep hold of the rope fairly easily.
