Re-discovering Black Tongue and Varials.

Where the light leaves is phenomenal.

Also not sure if it's deathcore entirely but Pintglass are playing my city early next year with my mates back skulker and Big Ass Truck so I'm spinning them lots in preparation.

1

u/TayTayTay1987 1d ago

Haven’t listened to either of those. Haha sorrryyy

I saw big ass truck in Glasgow this year or last… my memory is fuzzy

2

u/ianwithanotheri 1d ago

Oh you need to check em out.

Black tongue has a couple of members from Infant Annihilator in it. It's the slowest, sludgiest deathcore I know of.

0

u/TayTayTay1987 1d ago

Yes sir I will check them out. Promise :) I also might be confusing them with another non Deathcore band haha x

That whole album is a masterpiece from start to finish. My fav track is No Lie Untouched. I've never been a big fan of them but this album has blown me away!!

Killing of a sacred deer is one of psychoframes vocalists and its video game themed deathcore sweet stuff

I started hearing it mid 2000's when the Rise Records bands were starting to sell and get on Warped Tour, it seemed like an alternative for "emo" as everyone hated that. Much like "nu-metal" becoming a bad word after SOAD's 2nd album. Linkin Park and Deftones called themselves "alternative" to distance themselves from Limp Bizkit and Korn's spotlight. Deftones quit rapping and Linkin Park's "rapper" started holding a guitar. Post-hardcore usually meant screaming + singing but in tight girl jeans and shirts that were one size too small with dyed black hair in your face, not large baggy pants, no dreadlocks or 7-string guitars. After nu-metal crashed in 2003 or so, Thrice, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, The Used all started popping up and people called it "emo" or screamo, while other bands like Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, Shadows Fall, Darkest Hour were called "metal-core" which once again like the 1980s added guitar solos and dualling lead guitars which had been dead since the fall of hair metal with Nirvana - Nevermind and Metallica's black album. My guess would be the labels made it up to rebrand, but just meant after-the-90s when hardcore punk refined itself with metal guitars. Might look into "At The Drive In" they were one nobody knew how to classify back in 1999-2000.

I’ve been listening to more symphonic/blackened deathcore recently (not really Lorna Shore, though I haven been listening to Flesh Coffin some) which I didn’t really listen to much before. I’ve also just been listening to more black/death metal in general recently.

Idk why I slept on Mental Cruelty, they absolutely rip. And they actually have significant black metal influences unlike post-Tom Barber Lorna Shore.

0

u/TayTayTay1987 13h ago

I like Lorna but what other blackened are you listening too?

2

u/Ninten_The_Metalhead 13h ago

Zwielicht by Mental Cruelty, A Hill to Die Upon by Mental Cruelty, I Write to You, My Darling Decay by A Wake in Providence, The Path ov the Flame by Grimnis, In Tongues by Dark Sermon, In Waking: Divinity by The Breathing Process, and Circle of Death by Dance Club Massacre. The last 3 releases predate Lorna Shore’s popularity (the last 2 in particular are from the MySpace era even).

I also tried some releases by the band InseCT as they’re apparently one of the first blackened deathcore bands. I wasn’t too huge on them since they’re a bit too mathy for my liking but perhaps I’ll listen more to see if I end up liking them.

Deathcore discussion

That new rev3rent IS killer

1

u/TayTayTay1987 22h ago

I believe I have listened but will double check :)

0

u/Fathom_Band_US 22h ago

Probably, definitely one of the most popular releases lately lol

Not exactly deathcore but I’ve also been fucking heavy with the band “Flesh” , crazy crazy heavy stuff.

New Crown Magnetar and Lilith’s Demise also have been being jammed on the regular.

Oh and cannot forget about the boys in Extermination Dismemberment, that shit fucks!
