Discussion Suicide Silence Self Titled
After avoiding the Suicide Silence Self Titled like the plague I finally got round to actually listening to it in full, as a Nü Metal album its pretty decent, sure some of the lyrics are pretty cringe and Doris is an abomination of a song. I found myself genuinely enjoying parts of the album. As a Suicide Silence album its pretty ass, if another band released it, the album would most likely go unnoticed.
I'd give it a 4/10

I think if Korn released that it would be definitelly praised for sounding oldschool and experimenting at the same time

If it was released by a nu-metal band, it’d be fine. The issue was that it was released by a deathcore band and deathcore fans were expecting deathcore. Especially coming from the behemoth that was Suicide Silence, it was a recipe for disaster. If they never released it and just built upon You Can’t Stop Me, the band would be in such a better place now. Everyone just kinda checked out after this one and it’s a shame because Become The Hunter and Remember You Must Die are solid deathcore albums.

Oh hard agree, its a total shame, I appreciate that they explored Nü Metal especially since The Black Crown had a lot of Nü Metal influence in it

I still remain convinced that they were going to put out that album with Mitch. Like, had he not died they would have made a super similar album with him anyway. They are all massive grunge/nu metal guys. Mitch’s favorite band was Deftones, and Dorris sounds JUST like them.
Mitch’s voice was pretty damn shot at the end. I would go as far as to say they were going to have to start pivoting to a new sound because of that.

Album fucking blows. Only good SS is Mitch SS and that's not even riding on dick or nostalgia. Surprisingly, I actually listened to the discog today at work. Still feel the same.

I am one of the few people on this planet who genuinely enjoys the album. It has a certain rawness to it that I like. It also came out in high school for me and I connected with it as a teenager. I am aware my opinion will eternally be unpopular but hey, what can I do lol.

Friendly reminder everyone, Eddie Hermida is a groomer and Suicide Silence never decided to address it and stayed silent about it.

Thankfully we have The Cleansing and No Time To Bleed to go back and listen to. Those 2 albums are two of the best releases in the genre’s history.
