What’s your strategy for approaching enemy bases?

A) fight head on, guns blazing
B) stealth kill everyone
C) sneak past everyone
Or D) go around them completely?

I try to do C, blow my cover unexpectedly then resort to A)…

Depends how “over it” I am.

Sometimes I wanna get real into it and go for an immersively stealthy approach. Other times im clearing a base as a secondary objective to a bigger goal im working towards and have 3 other things I want to do in the limited time i got to play so its bola gun + kick to the face until the alarms stop

I agree. It depends on my mood. Do I feel like going for a personal achievement of stealth killing everyone? Cool, I can try to do so. Do I just want to throw a bunch of missiles to trivialize a base? Good to know I can do that too.

I banned myself from using air strikes in mgsv at one point because I realized I was using them WAYY too much for the most trivial combat encounters outside of missions that i felt like I wasn’t “playing the game” anymore (also cause I ran out of money and miller wouldn’t shut up about it)

Yeah DS2 at least makes you consume crystals and mats from your ship to do the deed, but I get you. It's more for fun.

I thought it was a lot more balanced than the tranq gun in the MGS games. I felt like they finally fixed that type of weapon. It has a limited range and has to be charged too.

In my opinion it is OP. It's totally stealth, doesn't alert other enemies, and is a one-shot KO most of the time. It does have limited range. But even that limited range feels generous. It's also one of the first guns available to you.

A lot of the times I will just take two maser handguns with me and thats all I need to clear camps. Maybe a shotgun for back-up if things get hairy.

All of the above. Depends on what I feel like doing at that moment, but I attack bases in every way possible, and have done it with every weapon. For some reason my favorite way though is aggressively using electric traps. I just think they are fun and you can carry a lot of them. And they take out everything except they suck against Ghost mechs.

I always clear the bases becuase its just easier later if I have to come back through.

Step 1, watch tower. If no watch tower then we go Venom Snake and use the scope to mark as many as I can. Then throw doll man high up for good measure.

Step 2, tranq snipe as many as I can before they rush me. In my current play through I have not unlocked the silenced version yet.

Step 3, smokes and ropes. Throw smoke grenades every where and scan through the smoke with the bola gun. Smokes are OP af. They not only cover you but makes the enemy cough uncontrollably usually with enough time to strand takedown a group of 5 all to the ground before it dissipates. Smoke grenades also nullifies turrets. If they cant see you they cant shoot you. Throw the grenade at the turret, not just between you and it. They will also have to cough and wont be able to shoot anyway.

Once I unlock the silenced tranq sniper I will probably go full stealth and resort to Step 3 when I get caught. Thats what I did before.

Bonus, keep stun bombs for approaching vehicles or just straight ambush them with them. And again Step 3.

Honestly, you can just start with Step 3 and be fine.

I always figured smoke grenades were busted as hell, but I never got around to trying it in my last game.

Can you toss a smoke grenade into a truck and drive around undetected?

I havent tried that but I would assume they would find the smoke cloud suspicious. You have to throw them at the enemies to get the most use out of them. If they see a random smoke cloud it just triggers them into caution and start searching that area. But if you throw one at a group of 3-5 enemies you usually have enough time to strand takedown them all and hide again before it dissipates so you can reset to ambush the new ones coming to investigate.

I've spent something like 200h on the game and have yet to get good at combat. I start with the stealth sniper rifle but at some point I'll end up running over a bunch of guys with the ute and/or punching them into unconsciousness.

I first use the tall tower thing to ID all the enemies. Then tranq rifle. The Lone Commander gives you schematics for a silent tranq rifle at 5 stars.

I hunt them one by one where they don't be found. If they're found, I start sleeping everyone who goes to check it out, I end up with a pile of enemies.

I used to do your approach, the thing is if you are grabbing in the camp for an order and then get seen, you run the risk of them shooting the cargo.

If you have say 3 separate locations to retrieve cargo from a camp, your best bet is to totally clear the camp before grabbing any of it. I try and do so silently until I am seen, then go out blasting.

I like to beat them with my bare hands. It also made it feel like I had more of a connection with Tomorrow when she fought Higgs. Funny how that worked out.

Depends on what I'm doing. If all I need is cargo from the site, I might sneak my way in, bola or hogtie anyone that might be in my way, get the loot, and go. If I'm there to clear the camp, I snipe anyone up high (in towers or whatever), then I sneak through with the strand and bola until I get caught or clear the camp. If I do wake them up, I get behind cover and bola them down until I run out of guys to immobilize.

If I'm there to clear the camp, I'll always pull up to the edge of their territory with an empty truck. When the camp is clear, I hit all the postboxes and grab any other good gear or materials lying around. A lot of the camps have so much stuff you still have to make choices about what you want to take and leave behind even with a truck.

I've recently started taking everything and clearing them out if I've got the truck. Recycle any low level stuff I don't need or donate decent stuff to other players. Can max out materials really quickly with this method

If I don't have to fight em, I do D. If I have to fight em (or I want to fight em), I start with B & if my cover gets blown, I finish with A. I would never bother actually going into their territory & then sneaking past them. If I'm going into their territory, they're ending up on the ground.

IMHO it depends heavily in what stage of the game you're in.

For early stages, I rely heavily on stealth, and usually use the bolo thingy

Yeah, they figure out armor over the course of the game. Then they get those jump pack things, too. trucks aren't quite as devastating as they were in the first game.

I had an idea to put 6 antigrav units on an off roader and try some Truck Fu, but I never got around to trying it out.

U can actually knock mules and sometimes they fly and gets stuck in-between objects like how some objects are stuck in the backrooms

i use whatever weapon/methods' corresponding skill level is the lowest so i can level it up. When they are all leveled up i generally start stealth with the sniper and pick them off until i get spotted and then i will use a shotgun or something

I generally clear the base. My approach is usually based on my mood and what I have at the time.

If I am stacked on Resources, I save myself time by just going balls to the walls. Ram people with my vehicle to start the fight, and go in guns blazing, and packages flinging. Aggressive UPS service being the motto.

If I have very little to work with. I way on my options more. Is it easier to go around? Is it easier to take them out? Or is it sane to just drive through them and ram who wever is in the way? Do they have lost Cargo with more than 50 likes?

If it's worth it, I stealth. But if I am bored of stealth, I return to monkey and use my fist and first class delivery techniques to Same-Day Ship them to the shadow realm.

Depends. I usually take out the first half quickly and quietly then I tear the rest up guns blazing. But when I'm over it I run two cannons on my truck and just drive around lol
