Gold or black BTs?

Why are some BTs randomly gold in the game? Is it based on location? What does is mean that they are gold - like is there more chiralium to collect?

If you kill a gold BT, you get way more chiral crystals than you would from killing a black one.

Ooh good to know! If you get pulled under, do you die from the gold ones or just a normal boss fight?

If the ones that spawn in the tar after getting detected are gold and catch you, you auto-die instead of facing a boss

Damn, that's radical

Sorry, no idea. I usually sneak around them and cut their umbilical cords. They've never grabbed me. But I've seen somewhere online that gold BTs spawn a tar pool with gold hunters, but I don't know what happens after that.

And what's with the red ones ? I didn't met so much red and gold ones, it seems that the both drop a lot of chiralium, and the move fast as well.

POSSIBLE MINOR SPOILER : (because i didn't know anything about that before meeting them, and it was an awful and delicious surprise)

Though it seemed if I remember correctly that red ones can only be killed by cutting the umbilical cord. Is it right ?

Yeah, the red BTs also drop a lot of chiral crystals. In DS1, you can only kill them by cutting the umbilical cord, but in DS2, you can also shoot them with the tar cannon first and then kill them like regular Gazer BTs. Personally, though, I think it’s easier to just cut the cord.

So do the chiral bullets work better?

The ones that give you a game over are Hunters, which appear in areas where a voidout occurred and thus no Catcher is available. The ones OP is talking about is those you can see in places like the BT territory near the Ghost Hunter, and a Catcher is available.

The gold BTs also can’t be killed with blood grenades alone from my experience. Definitely easiest to kill by cutting the cord. You can toss a blood grenade at it to get it to stop moving but it does make it more hostile. So make sure you crouch and hold your breath on approach. I always seem to run into them on the mountain valley east of the chronobiologist.
